Recent Cost Cutting Changes At Whispering Canyon Breakfast Buffet

Wanted to take a moment to warn anyone visiting Whispering Canyon for breakfast that may be using the Disney Dining Plan to rethink your choice or avoid using a dining credit for your visit due to the recent changes. During our family's last visit on 2/1/17, we arrived for our reservation like we have done many times a year for the past several years, this particular restaurant being my wife's favorite breakfast spot during our trips, only to discover a complete change to policy regarding dining plans.
Our family enjoys signature restaurants and event dining so we typically get the Deluxe Dining Plan for our stay and this trip was no different. On previous trips, we have always been told we could choose whatever we wished off the menu due to the extremely low costs in comparison to the level of the dining plan we purchased. Not This Time!!
Our whole family really enjoys the Pecan Sticky Buns ($5.00) and we have selected this with another item from the menu, this year for me it was Buttermilk Flapjacks ($13.00) and a coffee, the rest ordered very similarly. We were then told by our waiter rather rudely that breakfast does not include a starter and that the staff had been instructed to stop giving free food away. We mentioned that we have been ordering this way for years and were told we would be getting charged for the starters. The 2017 Deluxe Dining Plan Costs 103.57 per person per day So please beware and avoid wasting a credit at this restaurant when just breaking even on the plan would require each meal to average out to $34 and some change.
My personal option is to never revisit this restaurant again. Cutting costs at the expense of service and customers is never the right answer!

Be happy that in the past, you got more than the plan dictated rather than being angry for the policy being enforced correctly now.

The policy explicitly states that an a la carte breakfast on the dining plan includes a non-alcoholic drink and an entree...that's it. No starter (appetizer) and no dessert.

You don't get starters at breakfast on the Deluxe Dining Plan, but I would be mad if he was rude about it...

Sorry, but the others are correct. This is not a recent change. You received pixie dust in the past, and it's sad that you did not this time and weren't aware you were before. However, the brochures have ALWAYS stated that breakfast is only entree and drink, no matter what plan you have.

For many years breakfast on both the DDP and the DxDDP has been only an entree and a non-alcoholic fountain beverage at any TS restaurant when you order from a menu, but Disney owned restaurants have been more liberal with their implementation of the plan. While it was nice that WCC had allowed a starter in the past it is unfortunate that they did not explain that it was outside the rules of the plan so that this year you would not have been upset that it was no longer allowed.

The title of this thread needs to be changed. These are not recent cost cutting changes but rather enforcing a policy that has been in place for a long while. Maybe change the title to "No more extra pixie dust food at WCC."

I realize what the Disney states, not once did I say that they were not in compliance with the plans. However, I can name several other instances where the restaurants don't follow the plans to the letter (e.g.) Any dinner show that offers free alcoholic beverages with it. The Dining Plans clearly state Non-Alcoholic beverages only. If any of these shows took this bonus away there would be an outcry. How is this any different?

Also, the title is accurate, this is not pixie dust, it was up until a few months ago standard operating practice for them. I also clearly stated it was my personal option to not return. I was just making people aware that they did indeed take away something which they had freely offered for years previous to this.

This is incorrect. They HDDR clearly states that it includes beer, wine & sangria

Is there any other a la carte breakfast restaurant that was giving you starters? And, in reality, you don't know it was SOP for them. It was what you had received on your visits there, but you don't know they were doing it for anyone else.

As to the alcohol question, the alcohol comes with the meal, and it's only certain drinks. if you want something off the menu, you have to pay whether on DDP or not. You got something "off the menu" and you had to pay OOP this time.
