Received gas bill...someone call 911

My bill was $23 in November. My bill for Dec was $173; however, they had misread the first bill for this month, that one was $1365.09. They had overbilled for more than 100 Mcf. I almost had a heart attack when I got that one. I was immediately on the phone, who said they knew it had to be wrong and it should not have been mailed. I would be upset over the $173, except for the fact the $1365 had me so stressed.

My heat bill for the December was $38.00, I can't complain. :) I keep my heat on 60 degrees just to knock off the chill..I was expecting much worse.

My bill was $81 for december. We keep the heat at 71 during the day and 70 at night. house is 2000 sq ft, we just got geo thermo heat and this is our first full month bill. Last months bill was only 2 wks with the new system. We had propane for the last 16 yrs.

Don't have '04 figures for comparison...last month was $76, this month $119.

Remember also, even when comparing '05 to '04, for many parts ofthe country (I know here for sure) were MUCH colder, therefore higher consumption. Ours was higher, not nearly what I thought it would be, $237 if I recall.

We had unseasonable cold temps in Nov and Dec of this year here in central Pa. I don't think it's fair to compare it against last year when it wasn't nearly as cold last year.

We moved this past summer, so I can't really compare anyway, but our usage (oil, not gas) ran $91.00 for a 34 day period. That sounds good I know, but the upstairs is total electric and we've not gotten that bill yet. The people who lived here before told us that they never needed to turn the heat on upstairs, but I didn't find that to be the case at all. With 2 kids who love spending some time in their rooms, I couldn't freeze them to death. So, I kinda dread getting that bill, but am anxious at the same time to see what it is.

This summer, the entire house will be converted back to all oil. Electric is just too expensive in our area. I can't understand why anyone would have converted the upstairs to electric. You can tell that it once had oil (according to the repairman anyway). It makes no sense to me.

I feel extremely lucky to report our gas bill was $42. We keep it at 69-70 when home and at 62 during the day when no one is home. But to put some balance into this we paid over $300 for electricity (air conditioning) in July and August :guilty:
You Diser's who keep your thermostat below 65 are troopers, man I could never handle it that cold! :p

My bill went from $157.00 last month to $313.00 this month. :earseek:

We knew they said to look for a 40% increase and boy were they they right. Has anyone else received their December bill?

Actually that is almost a 100% increase! Yowser! :earseek:

I notice everyone is comparing their bill from this month to their bill from last month. What you should be doing is comparing your Dec. '05 bill to your Dec. '04 bill for a more accurate comparison. We don't use as much gas in Nov. as we do in Dec. It generally isn't as cold.

I agree. We always show a big jump from Nov to Dec each year. Luckily our Dec bill from last year to this year only show about a $10 increase. However my sister's said hers went up over $100 from her previous Dec and she lives right next door to me. We are keeping our heat down considerably so maybe that really does help. :)

if you like paying high gas bills, come live in chicagoland........
it was reported back in the summer that gas bills would triple compared to what they were 3 years ago and they were right on the mark.

3 years ago our budget plan was 65 a month. now we were moved up to 230 a month.......yikes. our house is a quad level and near lake michigan. when the wind blows, we know it.

december bill for us on actual usage was 295..........electric bill is separate and not too bad, only 100 this month.

i may have to get a job..........

Ours was 168 last month this month it's 323.61. Thank god it's been a little warmer the last couple of days. We keep are house at 70 at all times though.

Last month ours was 79, this month 315. Quadrupled. And, we have no control over it. Keep our thermostat on 67, one degree colder than last year. Do programable thermostats save you $? Or does the heater have to run more to catch up when you turn it up from being down low?

I am glad I signed up for Rely-a-Bill this year. This is our first month on it, last month our energy bill (gas & electric are combined) was 167.00 this month it is 136.00. We keep our thermostat at 71 during the day when someone is home and 64 at night or when we are gone. We are locked in at certain rate, the only way our bill for gas will go up is if we use over a certain percentage of gas than we used last year. I can't remember what the percentage is, but they will warn you if you go over for 1 month, if you do not bring it down the next month your bill amount will raise.

What do you mean when you say you "have no control over it"? As long as you are the one who controls the thermostat, you've got all the control you need.

A programmable thermostat will definitely save you money. You can set it to automatically lower the thermostat when you are out of the house and during the nite.

And no, it doesn't cost more to have the heater "catch up" when you turn it back up. That's a very common myth.

Not really what I meant. Of course, if I turn it down, I have control. But, with kiddies, I can't turn it down too much. :cold: I meant that we have no control over the price hikes. Gotta pay the bill, like it or not.
