Received a wedding invite - is this tacky?

I know I put "and guest" on some of my invites...but not on the outside envelope. I wrote it on the inside one and only for those that I knew didn't have a real steady partner. So outside was addressed properly Mr./Miss/Ms. first name, last name.

Inside had just first name "and guest" written after. I guess I wanted them to know they could bring a date even if they weren't seeing someone special.

If I knew they were a serious couple or engaged both names would have been formal on the outside envelope.

my fiance is going to be a medical doctor, so any formal invitation should list that, informal or inside envelopes fine. i agree with the professor title for phd, etc. though.

Thanks for the clarification. When you said he was working on his doctorate, I thought you meant a Ph.D. :flower:

They are both your cousins. You can do the once removed thing if you want but I just go with cousins. Yes I realize that this is completely OT but I get asked this a lot doing geneology.

I don't think professor works in some cases. Just because you have your Ph.D. doesn't make you a professor. You are always, however, a doctor. But as I said before, who cares if someone calls you Mr.? You still are a Mr.

That's true that not every PhD will be a professor so that title wouldn't really be accurate, unless you know that's the person's profession. My husband's uncle has a PhD but works for the Dept. of Treasury. I will have a PsyD (psychology PhD) but I won't be a professor either. I also don't care though if people write Mr. and Mrs. on our mail or Dr. and Dr. (nor do I think my husband would care).
