Receive mail/packages at BLT?

Hi everyone!

I will be heading down to WDW for a seven night stay at BLT. I have a question about the ability to receive mail there - I use one of those mail order pharmacies to receive medication that I need, and I am awaiting a refill that I would need during our stay. So my question is this: would I be able to receive a package at BLT (whether USPS or FedEx), and if so, what address would I need?

I saw the sticky before about shipping to the resort, but I just wonder if something like my item would be different. Also, I really have no say in whether it is decided that my package ships USPS or FedEx, which is not cool :-/

Thank you so much for your help everyone! This is my first "real" time going to WDW, as I went when I was 15 but was too young yet too old to really enjoy it. Even then, my family only ran through it for one day :sad2: My bf and his family are DVC members and Disney people, so we'll see what it's like now :)

There is a sticky at the top of this board called "shipping to your resort." Read the instructions carefully; you cannot use USPS.

I've never heard that you CANNOT use USPS. The first post in the sticky says why many people choose not to:

"Don't ship it through the Post Office... Here is why... The US Post Office does NOT recognize Disney streets, any and all mail being sent to Disney through the US Post Office will go to the PO Box (regardless of how you address it) as the post office does not deliver to Disney directly. From the PO Box it is sorted into sections and then specific locations before it is delivered out to property. This can take quite a bit of time."

Since OP can't choose the shipping method, a concern would be whether the package would be received in a timely manner.

Is it a refill you will absolutely need for your trip? Having worked in the resorts, I know how fickle mail can be. It may arrive after you've left, and if that occurs you may never see it again. Your prescription company also may have trouble with the sudden address change. It also has to be sorted once it arrives, meaning there may be a delay.

Is it a medication you can maybe get a sample pack of at your doctor office? If that's a possibility (my thyroid doctor is always willing to hand out some prescription samples!) I would do that to tide you over.

I think doing this with prescriptions is a dangerous game at best. I would try and find an alternate method of having enough for vacation before resorting to this.

As a physician, my best advice is that you ask your doctor to write a prescription for a one month supply to take to your local pharmacy (and fill it before you leave). That way, you will be sure to have your medications for the trip. Getting a sample is another great idea, but if it is not a medication that is sampled (ie generic drugs) or your doctor is out of samples, you will be sure to have your medication this way. You can ask your mail order pharmacy to ship your Rx one month later, so it doesn't get delivered to your house while you are gone (and you will have the one month supply from your local pharmacy, so you will have enough meds to get through the month).

I did see a pharmacy locally in Orlando that delivers to the WDW resorts, but I don't think they take insurance, so if you really need to have the mail order delivered to WDW and it doesn't make it, your doctor could call in an Rx there (last resort, as would be expensive and stressful!).

Can you call your mail order pharmacy and tell them you will be on vacation during the delivery time and ask them to expedite it to your home address?

If that doesn't work... and this will depend on how your insurance covers medication, you may want to call them first because mine does not like to pay for medication that they say that I theoretically have a supply of.

How about getting a "gap" coverage of medication, for example if you need 10 days of pills, can you call your doctor's office, speak to his nurse explain you are going on vacation and need medication to cover you until you return home? Have the nurse call in an order to a local pharmacy for the required amount of medication. You will need the name, address, phone and maybe fax number of the local pharmacy.

Good luck!
