Recalling inventory from CRO?

We are scheduled to leave on January 22, but it looks like we need to shift the trip a couple of days for my husband's job. Obviously, the availability at the last minute is a tad stressful, but we can make a split stay work. We need to drop two days from our reservation and keep the last 5. We would then like to add 4 days at the end. If we can keep those 4 days at the same resort, so we only have to move once with our 5 month old, we'd be pleased.

With points, we can reserve those last 4 days at SSR. We are very happy with that. However, when looking at CRO, there are studios available at BLT, BCV, and OKW which aren't available on points. I am aware that there are different inventories from breakage, when owners use the Disney Collections, etc. I am not posting a rant - I get it. :) I do, however, remember reading from someone here that there is a way that MS can recall those rooms if we are within 60? 30? days.

I am just curious if that is right, and if so, what words I need to use when I call MS so I can maybe get one of those called back to use with points. If it isn't possible, I am okay with that. However, if it is an option, I'd like to use it. Thanks for any help.

I know some people have posted that they had to speak to a supervisor to get Member Services to free up breakage inventory. Or that some MS Cast Members don't know how to retrieve breakage inventory so that a points-based reservation be made. Yet, at the same time, we read many posts from people who book last minute stays without any problem. Your ability to book four nights at SSR at this late date shows that breakage inventory is available to Members.

I believe that some of the inventory you are seeing at CRO cannot be recalled and used for point-based reservations. Those CRO villas are not part of the breakage inventory but rather part of the 'exchange' inventory. The points that support those villas might already have been used for exchanges for the Disney Collection, the Concierge Collection, etc. If so, they cannot be used again by another DVC Member to book a stay based on points.

If villas are truly part of the breakage inventory, then they can and will be recalled for Members to book using points. That is how you can book four nights at SSR using points at this late date. And if you looked at CRO, those same four SSR nights are being offered to cash customers.

I would have to guess that those BLT, BCV, and OKW rooms you see are not breakage inventory but are probably rooms given to the CRO to cover the cost of DCL and other Disney collection trips and you will probably not be able to get them.

Room listed on the Disney website, are as rlovew said, not rooms that can be reclaimed.

I've read here that 30 days before arrival date (or was 60?) all rooms not yet booked go to CRO for cash reservations. Those can still be booked on points, but I don't know if they are shown available on the members website or not, so this might not apply to this case.

However, if CRO has a room because of a DCL point exchange, but it's still free last minute, it would be intelligent to book it back for points. If they leave the room unoccupied the total earning is zero. If they give it to a member, they can pull to CRO another room later on for the same points amount. The total point balance in even but this way they have an happy member and a room to be booked instead of a wasted empty room.
Does it make sense?

The answer is yes and no.

No if it is inventory that has been traded out by members using their points

Yes is it is 60 day breakage inventory or excess maintinance inventory.

Come CMs check as a matter of course, some you have to ask and the newer ones you may need to have a supervisor do it.

I would suggest calling in the afternoon when they are less busy.

Rooms not booked at 60 days out can be taken as breakage. They can also anticipate breakage and take those rooms 11 months out.

If the room is used by a member and by a member to book a DCL cruise, they get negative income for the room and can't pay DCL for the cruise. All they need to do is stop all trading out and then every member will be happy and not see very much inventory on the Disney Reservation Center page (except for the inventory owned by Disney).
