Does anyone know how rebooking onboard w DVC works? I have read about point reductions, are they only available if you book within the 11 month window? I am guessing we'll want to rebook, but can only travel 12 months or more from our March 20 cruise. Does that prevent us from rebooking and thus getting any DVC benefit?

Thanks!
Laurie

I am not sure what point reduction you are refering to, but I would guess that you cannot book outside of the 11 months window.

I too would be interested in knowing how the rebooking with points is on board.

I've used up this years and a small portion of next years points with our trip this August. I wouldn't be able to borrow again till next April. If I did rebook (which I doubt) how would they work the borrowed points?

They gave us a discount point chart on board. You are restricted to the 11 month window. When you call them, you tell them that you have the discount point chart for rebooking from your previous cruise, and they allow you to rebook at the discount point rate.

You really do have to look at which is better--using points (which doesn't give you the $200 onboard credit), or using cash, which gives you 10% off the normal rate plus $200 credit.

You might look into renting out your points and rebooking with cash....it's a much better deal.

I have heard that when you rebook on board, they will discount the number of points needed per person, that was the point reduction that I was referring to.:sunny:

DVC members cannot rebook on board the ship unless they're using cash instead of points. DVC members need to pick up the special points chart, select the cruise/category they want to do, and then WITHIN 3 DAYS of getting off the ship they have to call dvc member services to tell them they're rebooking that specific date. If that date is within 11 months, it'll get booked on that phone call. If the desired date is more than 11 months away, member services will tell the dvc member what date to call back (and a note is made in the record). If you get off the ship and wait a month thinking you need to be in your 11 month booking window you're out of luck! The information you get on the ship is pretty clear...it'd be tough to screw up if you just read what you get.

Thanks, Sue. I'm assuming they make a note in the record that when you call back on the "right" date (within the 11 month window) that the point reduction will still be offered as long as that 1st phone call was made 3 days or less after disembarking?

DVC members can get a discount for up to 14 months out. One must call within 3 days of getting off the ship. If it's more than 11 months but less than 14, you stil need to call MS then call back at the 11 month window. I suspect the cash will be far better for most people.

I am with you Towncrier - I have been cruising on points off and on since 2000. Boy, am I out of step! Can anyone give me an idea of how much the percentage reduction is? We are not even sailing until September but I have my eye on December of 2005.

I wasn't aware of this perk. How long has DCL been doing this?

Like everything else, unless you read it here, you won't be told about it!

But you must do it within the 3 day window and there are no onboard credits AND please remember that if you make ANY changes to the reservation you will be charged that ridiculous $75.00 fee regardless of when you call or what you change.

We are on the Wonder now. Just left Castaway Cay today.
It all depends what catagory and the time of year you are cruising. It can be up to 12-26 pts(per person) on a 7 day...........and 7-14 pts on a 3-4 day cruise.

As stated above, you must call MS within 3 days after you get off the ship to confirm and book the cruise. They do make a note of it if you are farther than 11-14 months out.

Thanks for the info on reduction amounts - it at least gives me an idea of what to be thinking about next.
