So, on Jan. 29th I had to go out a purchase a new computer monitor. I bought a MAG 17" for $129 at Best Buy. Today, I'm looking at the Best Buy flyer in the newspaper and I see where there is a rebate for $50 if you purchase the same monitor between Feb 12, and can't remember the end date.
I still have the box and packaging that the new monitor came in.
Would you take it back for a refund and then purchase it again to get a $50 rebate? There will probably be a restocking charge!

I wouldn't, but dh might. Of course if they do a restocking charge, might not be worth the trouble.

Just a little vent about Best Buy rebates. Christmas of 2003 Best Buy had the DVD players the day after Thanksgiving for $39 with a rebate of $20 each.
DH bought 4 so each child would get one. Sent in all the proofs of purchase, receipts. Waited. Waited some more. Rebates never arrive. Fine. Only $80. Still at $39, the DVD players were a great deal. I move on.

Fast forward to April of 2005. DH and I again go to Best Buy and buy a new washer and dryer. The washer had a rebate of $100 on it from GE, along with a matching $100 from Best Buy. In addition, Best Buy would refund the $50 delivery charge. Great. Wait 6 weeks. Go up to Best Buy and ask how long a rebate should take. Customer Service Manager calls some number and tells me to wait another 3-4 weeks as the rebate center normally lags 4 weeks behind. What? Okay I wait. 6 weeks later I happen to be back in Best Buy and I see the same guy at the desk and comment that I am still waiting for the rebates to arrive. I had shown him my photocopied reciepts when I first inquired, so he remembered me. I mention that this was not the first time that Best Buy had not honored their so called rebate system, and he told me that I was not the only person that had complained about never receiving their rebates.

So for now, I am done with Best Buy. I shop at Circuit City, Sears, Costco, and only buy at Best Buy if they have the best price and there is no mail in rebate! :thumbsup2

Same here.

I had the situation you describe with Best Buy years ago with a CTX computer ('96, the last computer DH bought in a store). It went on sale two weeks later for 200 dollars less and a 50 dollar mail in rebate.

We went to our best buy to complain about it. Customer Service called over the Store Manager and he took care of it, no restocking fee. At the time, I was given the impression that this was normal for them.

I hardly shop Best Buy these days because getting in and out of ours is such a nightmare. I guess I've been fortunate that we've never had a problem with them.

UPDATE***

I just got off the phone with customer service. The guy I talked to asked me to look at my receipt. There are 2 dates at the top of the receipt. 1st date will say 14 day return on products (such as computers and monitors). The date on my receipt is 02/12/06!!! :goodvibes He said I didn't have to bring the monitor back, just show up TODAY (no later!) and I could get a new receipt and rebate form!
I bought a new digital camera from them the day before.
Whenever I send in for rebates I always make copies of everything I send in case they claim they never received it. Then, I always stay on top of how long it's been since I submitted it.
I've heard the horror stories about BB rebates but I've never had a problem.

Glad it worked out for you. I bought a flash drive from BB 2 years ago and at the time there was a rebate for $5 and $15 so I made all the appropriate copies and sent it in. My co-worker had lots of problems with BB rebates and predicted I would have the same problems. I had only received one rebate (the $5 one of course) but I just called the 800 number and I did receive the $15 one as well. Those customer service lines (so far) have been helpful to me.
