Southern California Reasonable priced hotels on the beach inbetween SW and LL?

Looking to spend 2 night in SD after 3 days at DL, would love something on a nice beach and not to far of a drive to SW/LL and the airport?

Any suggestions?
Also would love any advice for SW and LL. can they both be done in one day each?
Any budget or discount tips would be appreciated!

We would be going at the end of April/beg of may 2014. Not sure if this is an off season?
