I think a reasonable point charge is 2x the maintenance fee per point. Your thoughts ?

IMO there is no such think as a reasonable price per point. There is only whatever the marked is willing to pay.
I myself charge $20 pp. that way I Make a few bucks and the renter is still saving approx 50% compared to going direct.

I rarely rent out bulk points rather hard to get reservations which IMO further more justifies my price point.

Renter at twice as the MF is a bad decision because owners is actually paying way more than that.

If you have ie 24 years left on your contact that will give you 24 x amount of points allotted each year. Take the total amount you paid for your contract and divide it with the total amount of points left on your contract. Then you have what you pay to use 1 point add that to your annual MF and you will have maybe $10. Then you could also add another MF and you might reach $17. That amount is still low IMO.

I think it all depends and is a personal preference. I rented a reservation last year to someone and charged $13/pp for my BWV points and $11/pp for my SSR points...very close to the 2X MF you mention. For me, it was an acceptable rate. If I ever have extended family use my points, then I charge right around MF. In all cases, they were points that I knew I could afford to rent out and were not needed for upcoming trips...so what I got helped to reduce what I had to pay for my 2018 MF's.

As stated, whatever others are willing to pay as well as how fast you may want to secure a renter will play a role. If I get in the situation where I have points again to rent, I won't hesitate to rent at around that same level.

Anything less that $19 a point is a real gift to whom ever is renting from you.

If I am a renter, the reasonable rate is as low as possible. If I am a rentee, it is as high as possible. The market will meet in the middle based on supply and demand---in the short run, demand seems to continue to outrun supply. In the long run, your guess is as good as the Magic 8-Ball's.

Sort of OT. Say I have 150 points and my stay this year is 130 points or whatever. I know I can bank the 20 extra points until next year but for arguments sake let's say I'm not planning a trip for next year or for whatever reason can't bank them. Can I reasonably expect to be able to transfer or rent out small amounts of points like that or do leftovers like that tend to go to waste?

I just asked David's that question last week and the rep said that 20 would be the minimum.

A reasonable charge is market value of the points.

Alot of owners tend to think of the MF as their cost and never stop to think about the initial purchase price..as was already mentioned you have to calculate your price paid per point per year and that is your cost.

Even to family I won't rent at my cost because I need some return on that money, Im splitting a res with family next year and I settled on 13pp..that's a modest 3 dollar profit and still 3-4 points below market value of non destressed points

I once invited a friend to share a studio with me for the WDW marathon and I didn't ask him anything. I was going to book that studio anyway.
Another time I invited some friends to stay at the Grand Floridian and I booked a studio for them, I asked barely my costs ($7 pp).
I normally rent my points on the rental board to strangers and I charge market value, recently $15pp. Rental brokers charge more to end user but pay less than that to owners, so I felt $15 was reasonable.
So it very much varies to whom you're going to rent.

I think it depends on how far in advance the reservation is for and if the points are distressed or not

I like the 3x the maintenance price, to me, seems a fair rate and points usually rent out at a pretty quick.
