We have 'country' water, so we don't have the greatest water.

What methods do you use to effectively clean your Keurig, both the water resivoir & the actual machine? Hopefully, cheap methods, LOL.

I fill the tank with vinegar and run that through the machine several times. I then run plain water through a couple times to get the vinegar out. It takes off all the hard water deposits and gook and is cheap! I even soak other things that have hard water deposits in the hot vinegar after I've used it on the Keurig so I really get my $$ worth!

I have to second the white vinegar; follow the directions to descale the Keurig in the owner's manual. It really makes a difference. We were having problems with the Keurig not working properly and descaling it resolved the issue. I got a gallon of white vinegar for a couple of dollars...super cheap!

Vinegar! There are directions in your instruction book or online. Never had a problem with it leaving a taste. Just have to run enough water through. We also have country water. Well water, in fact. I use bottled water in my Kuerig, though.

When I fill mine with water I run it through the Brita pitcher first. I haven't needed to clean it yet but I use vinegar in my Mr. Coffee.

I don't want to hyjack this thread, but I have a question. I have a B60 that has been acting up, I have descalled and it works OK then tells me to descale and only the big cup lights up. I unplug it, and plug it back in and the descale goes off.

Should I run the vinnegar throught twice? Keurig will only offer to sell me a new machine at a discounted price.

Can anybody offer other suggestions? :confused3

I would call them. My mother had a problem with her's and after running through some troubleshooting measures with her they sent her a brand new machine.

Same as above - white vinegar. Fill reservoir, run a couple of cups, and leave the machine on for about 2 hours. Then I run cups until it empties, rinse reservoir and run water through.

We have a purified water dispenser and use that water instead of tap. I think that helps.

We have had never ending problems with our Keurig. Keurig has replaced our unit (free of charge) over six times. The last time they finally upgraded us to the new office/professional unit instead of the home unit. The problem we have is our well water. Even though we filter it before putting it in the Keurig the Keurig doesn't do well with the high mineral content.

The only thing you can clean it with is vinegar. Using anything else will void your warranty. Although I have to say that vinegar never worked for us. It wasn't strong enough to break up the calcium deposits that form from our well water.

Since they upgraded us to the office/professional model (B155) we haven't had any problems but then again we haven't had it for six months yet.

I saw something the last time I was in BBB. It is a bottle right next to the keurigs to clean coffee machines. It was $3.99. I didn't bother to get it because vinegar is cheaper.

Thanks guys. Figured you would know what works best, regardless of whether or not it was in the book!

I only use bottled water in mine and have never had to descale it.

I was actually told by Keurig that using bottled water would require Xtra cleaning....so perhaps give them a call:confused3....we had to get a new machine, they sent it to us for free.....it was about the UNreasonable amount of noise, not about the water...but I happened to mention I used bottled and she said we'd likely have to clear it out more often....

Question Back to top
What type of water should I use in my Keurig brewer?
Answer

Coffee and tea are over 98% water so quality drinking water is necessary for a good coffee, tea or iced beverage. Never use softened water because sodium ions in softened water form a gelatinous mass around the coffee grounds and tea leaves, slowing down the extraction process and causing over-extraction. This can also clog your brewer.

Here are solutions for several common brewing water problems:

•Problem: My beverage has an “off” taste due to chlorine in the water.
•Solution: Use the Water Filter Starter Kit to remove chlorine residue.
•Problem: My beverage has a "chemical" taste such as sulfur or iron.
•Solution: Use the Water Filter Starter Kit to correct taste contamination.
•Problem: My brewer has a build-up of magnesium and calcium scale from hard water.
•Solution: Maintain and clean your brewer using the provided de-scaling instructions at least every 3-6 months. Do not use well water even if put through a ‘softener’.
•Problem: The coffee grounds and tea leaves become gooey and the beverage tastes over-extracted or bitter.
•Solution: Avoid use of softened water to brew. In areas where the water is hard, use bottled drinking water or a filter to purify.

I use white vinegar also. I follow the directions I read a long time ago, with my first Keurig...empty the reservoir, 1/2 fill it with vinegar, run a cup or two through the machine, then turn the machine off for about 4 hours. Then, empty the reservoir of vinegar, fill with fresh water and run the entire reservoir through (brew multiple cups). This method holds the vinegar in the tubing longer than just brewing a couple of cups then fresh water.

We had problems with our Keurig last week as well DW call them and got it working again! But I always fill water from the Britia pitcher we have a lot of chlorine in are water.

And in checking my cupboards I realize I only have apple cider vinegar. Time to go buy white vinegar!
