Really wish we had more information....

I need to know more about what September will look like in order to plan my July trip ... we're find with doing one resort only trip, which is what the July trip would be in California, but we don't want to do two resort-only trips! If the CA parks are open (even limited) in September, we'll do resort-only in July, but if September is going to be resort-only I'd rather use the July points for next April.

Agree, OP that one of the hardest part of this is _not knowing_, not having enough information and not knowing when we'll have the information we need to make the right decisions. It absolutely confounds my planner brain. :scared: (In spite of recognizing and being grateful that all my COVID problems are first-world problems.)
yes, we just need to know!!! So we can plan our lives!! We are in Texas and its a big deal to get to disney.. planning around everyone's schedules etc... its not easy. My cousins family that are going with us don't get to go ever so its a pretty big deal for them. Want it to be right.

We had an early June trip that I've already cancelled and another scheduled for early August that's still a go for now. I plan to evaluate the data from folks who have June and July visits before I make any final decisions on the August trip. I do think we will hear some tentative opening plans from Disney soon.

We have 6/21 - 6/28 trip planned. Trying to decide what to do, most likely canceling, but was hoping Disney would cancel on me so I would be available
to roll my 2019 points as Disney had offered. Any thoughts on this, in the event I am missing something here?

not sure how the rolling of the 2019 points will work out. I’m in a similar situation as my April/May reservation was canceled but I rebooked to early August, now that one is not working, so don’t know if I’ll get a second chance.

I feel like I am gambling here. I am so uneducated in the DVC points rules. How late can you cancel and still get your points put back into your account?

no clue, but what makes me nervous is that the rules keep changing

What is your UY? Depending on that tell you your banking window, To be honest, I think DVC resorts will be open in June,

So, at this points, if you aren’t going to regardless, then be sure to cancel 31 days ahead so you can avoid holding.

That is being waived right now, but I expect it to be stopped once an announcement regarding opening is made,

From listening to the news, things don’t sound too promising. Saying Covid 19 can be around for the next 2 years. And on top of that already warning of a second wave this Fall/winter with upcoming flu season. I’m trying to stay positive but it’s getting harder.

Thank you Sandisw! Our UY is June. It's my understanding I will have til May 31 2021 to use my 2019 points. Hope that is a correct understanding of the rules.

That is correct. You must have already banked those points in order to use them in June 2020. Any June 2020 UY points you have in that reservation would still be eligible for banking as that window doesn't close until Jan 31st, 2021.

Any borrowed points will also expire May 31st, 2021. Right now, if you were to cancel, and did have borrowed points, the would put those back for you as they are doing that. That could change at any time.

If you didn't use borrowed points, then you don't need to worry!

I had a trip planned that I was going to book soon for the entire family. I keep hoping that can be done, depending on the news of the hour. But I just read the news about what you stated and I now know we are not going as a family in the next year, if that is true. I am hoping that the trip I had planned will be able to come to fruition in 2021.

So sad for people (though I'm sure the environment is benefiting from what we are not doing). I hope the smart ones come up with a cure and/or surefire treatment soon!

I've been thinking a lot recently about how our vacation and leisure patterns are going to change for the next year or two. We're planning to avoid densely-crowded activities (theme parks, major sporting events, cruises) and instead look for more outdoor or in-place things. We may still fly--we are holding out hope we can still go to Hawaii at the end of the year--but will probably avoid flying as much as we can and start visiting more drive-to destinations. They will be less flashy, but thinking back on some of the ones we've done they can still be fun. The biggest thing we need to change is our perspective.
