Really wish we had more information....

I have July and November trips planned at VGC and a September trip planned at AKV-Kidani. I am already seriously considering cancelling the September trip. I will be travelling with my Mom who will be 82 at that point and I am not taking that risk with her. She has gotten an upper respiratory infection the last 2 times she went (and shared with me last year), so I am not taking any chances. I do not want the 5 hour flight worries either due to recirculated air. And wearing masks in Sept sounds miserable. For the 2 VGC reservations, I am still on the fence on those. I live 20 minutes from DL, so no travel worries. But just not sure how it will be in the parks at that point. I am inclined to leave the reservations as is for the moment. I have until 7/31 to bank points, so I plan to make a decision in mid-July. I stand to lose about 80 points that were previously banked, but not sure what I can do other than deposit to RCI or leave a partial reservation for September and try to rent it out for those willing to go then.

Day in & day out I'm asked "What should I do?" regarding traveling. I did an interview today and was asked the same thing, but really, when push comes to shove, each & every person needs to decide what's safe for them and their traveling party. There isn't anyone anywhere who can say it's safe or not safe.

I just booked a trip May 29 - June 5 at SSR, Vero & BWV. I also just booked a trip to LAS Vegas for July and we're still going to WDW & Vero in September. But...that's our choice and we intend to travel smart and we feel that we'll be okay.

If you decide that travel is okay for your travel party...Just travel smart :)

Hi, I don't know for sure that the pools will be close. I don't know that anybody knows that for sure but I got that from reading many threads on these boards. People aren't expecting the pools to be open for a while because of the potential of spreading CV-19. Is that factually known at this time? I don't know, I don't know if Disney knows. At this point its a wait and see, best to plan for the worst case scenario and if it's better then we expected we can all be happy.
It could ve changed by now ymmv but...

Everything I’ve read coming from the experts seems to say the pools aren’t an issue. Chlorine should handle that. It would be the lack of social distancing of people in them.

one bright spot for us is anticipating opening our pool hopefully mid May!

it’s the whole ocean sneezing phenom that freaked me out. Seriously? Wah even the beach is a bad idea

They are your points. If you are not willing to risk them, I would cancel.
If you are using your points for their reservation, have them pay you for your points now and tell them that they are non-refundable should Disney not open. Because they are not.
I hear ya... agree I need to do whats best... so you don't think they will open?

I for myself and pretty ok with it, traveling in general... my main issue is not having a 100% disney experience. But we have 2 people in our party that probably should not go. But, today they were talking more about it going away in summer, coming back fall, so if thats true summer may be fairly safe!! who knows.. I need to make decision and if I knew from Disney what will be open, not open, etc. I could make at least a better decision.

I'm in agreement with other posters. I think you should cancel and rebook. It seems like I'm a lot like you, I like to have things settled and hate sitting around without a firm decision!

It seems like a resort only stay is not something that is of interest to you, and I don't think the experience of what WDW will be like as we are still working through this pandemic matches what you want.

I hear ya.. I would cancel too.. can't take those kinds of chances... I am sorry about your points.. I have 194 to use by May 2021... so I have some time to figure something out.

I'm sure disney wishes they had informaion to give to. States right now are just now trying to start doing phase 1 reopenings. How well those go and what that does to the numbers is going to go a long way in determining what happens at disney and other places like that.
I agree unfortunately.... I just wish it wasn't so. We all need to figure out our lives.... but it is what it is...

We've decided that we are avoiding "densely crowded" activities---theme parks, live sporting events, cruises, etc.---until a vaccine is widely available. We will still travel, but to more outdoors-oriented destinations with hiking, biking, kayaking, etc.
This is our plan. We hope to be able to go to Hilton Head this October. If we can't make it to WDW next November, then it will be two trips to Hilton Head next year since we will have DVC points we will have to use. I can live with that.

Rainbow. Where do you live that the pools is closed for summer?
General geographic area ?
Any one else have predictions on local beaches pools etc?
Judging what it maybe like for August trip.
Chicagoland suburbs. Not sure how many have closed, but our town said there is no possibility they will open at all this summer.

The health person they had on during our governor's press conference today said swimming pools in the whole state were closed until June 1st (ours is closed for the summer already) and when asked why , the health expert said it was due to congregation in the lockers rooms and the fecal component of covid.

End of july trip-as long as pools are open , restaurants even at decreased capacity at hotels open , if biggest tide of this is over we would probably go if we are allowed ( Connecticut resident and not welcome in the sunshine state at the moment). We were planning a resort only visit anyway from the beginning. Will lose huge number of points if not able to go- many of which were borrowed. Bonus would be parks open at least in part so pool area not overcrowded lol! I can still dream it can happen at this point.

op I’m in the same position. I’m ready to cancel my mid August trip, but others are holding out. I’ve already canceled my April reservation and late May-early June reservation. This just isn’t happening this year. My September trip is pretty much canceled too. I’m ready to move on and keep my fingers crossed for January

well.. we are still on for July 25 if no masks required, rides / parks/ pools open... so we shall see hoping to know more over next week or so, feeling more positive after all that new news from today.

I cancelled our first week of July trip today. Even if the parks are open I can't imagine it being much fun if everything is not open, masks will be HOT and the constant worry about catching something that could potentially be deadly. I cried. But I knew it was the right thing to do.

after reading some of the possible guidelines, we decided if employees 65+ are encouraged not to work during phase 1 and phase 2 it surely tells me that it’s not safe for us guest who are 65+ to be there either.

I heard this morning that the current plan is to open at 50% compacity to start ramping up to 75%. Cast members to wear facemasks and have temp taken at beginning of each shift. No date for this plan was supplied, hopefully today we will hear more when the governor revels the state plan to reopen FL. Hoping for the best. :tink:

I need to know more about what September will look like in order to plan my July trip ... we're find with doing one resort only trip, which is what the July trip would be in California, but we don't want to do two resort-only trips! If the CA parks are open (even limited) in September, we'll do resort-only in July, but if September is going to be resort-only I'd rather use the July points for next April.

Agree, OP that one of the hardest part of this is _not knowing_, not having enough information and not knowing when we'll have the information we need to make the right decisions. It absolutely confounds my planner brain. :scared: (In spite of recognizing and being grateful that all my COVID problems are first-world problems.)
