Really upset! bad Update - p. 3, post 35

If it were me I would call his boss and explain the situation and see if there was any way he could come in different hours or whatnot so he can still use the tickets. The worst he can say is no and you are in the same spot you are now. I would tell him you got them as a surprise and your DH has no idea about this.

Things don't work like that in the private sector either. Any employer I've ever worked for would have laughed in my face if I'd demanded they reimburse tickets, etc due to weekend work for a special project.
Demand? No. But assuming the employee is in good standing and has a good working relationship with his/her manager, explaining the situation and ASKING isn't unreasonable.

Her dh does know about the trip, though, and said he can't go due to work. Her husband is an adult and knows his job situation. If he says he cannot go, why would this suddenly change because his wife called the boss? :confused3

OP I'm sorry your plans didn't work out. :sad1:

and I wouldn't call either. I wouldn't want my dh to call my work after I already said it wasn't doable. It would make me look bad. I think golfgal may not have seen that dh already knew. Thanks!

thanks! and I wouldn't have asked boss it either, but I figured the PP worked for a great company and lucky they do which it sounds like they realize

So, as an update, I called the Bruins; and although I could have changed the zamboni to their last weekend home game, I cannot change the tix themselves. I don't think I can sell them because I have no way to get them to the person who would want them unless they are local. And considering where I live, I doubt anyone here would want to see a Bruins game.So keeping my fingers and toes crossed, hoping things change.

Have you tried ebay? You never know who might be interested, even where you live. We had tickets to a Metallica concert we couldn't attend at the last minute (the day before the concert). We posted on ebay and sold them to a local who met us the morning of the event. Just an idea.

My dh would be horrifiied if I called his boss. I really don't think it's her place to do that. If one of my employees' spouses called me about something like this I would be annoyed.

I think that stinks, sorry your plans fell through.

Is this Saturdays game?

If he works for the Govt. then he should be able to call out sick with no repercussions or at least very little.
Good luck.

I'm sure you were just trying to be funny here, but most of us who work for the government actually do work.

What I was trying to say is that the Govt. for the most part has very lax rules as far as writing people up. If one of my guys called in sick on Sat. or Sun. as long as they have time to cover there's not much I can do. Of course I’m sure different areas have different rules. My experience is at the Navy Yard.

Nope, dh would be fired.

That stinks.

In the future-when I was working and my DH planned a suprise thing for me--he actually notified my bosses. Easy to do b/c we worked in the same building, so he could go and do that. (But it was a weekday at a very important time--so it had to be prearranged.)

But that was to plan the surprise. Not to fix a schedule conflict after. I do agree that you should not call now. But in future surprises, you might consider something to that effect.

I agree and I usually do. Like asking permission to bring dh a birthday cake. Even if I had asked for this, however, it would not have mattered because the conflict cannot change simply because we had something planned. It's MUCH MUCH bigger than him or our weekend.

Well, I even tried to buy new tix that for 4/10 were similar with no success. :headache: What a bummer.

Well, it's just been put in our local paper that they are working through the weekend. I'm just so disheartened. I really feel like I blew it on dh's birthday; and wasted a lot of money to do it. I'm not quite sure how to make it up to him.

That stinks. I'm so sorry. You did NOT BLOW IT!! You tried to give him a really great birthday but unfortunately life got in the way:confused::guilty: I know you're out of luck with the hotel...I wonder if the hotel would let someone else use the room if you called them and explained..it is paid for already. Then at least someone is using it. Try to sell the tix on Stubhub.

About 10 years ago or so, my DH also had a very bad birthday. Many things went wrong at his job that day. While he did make it home for cake & gifts, it still wasn't a great birthday. He was very bummed. So 6 months later I made him a 1/2 year birthday to make up for it. Surprized him with a cake, balloons, cards & a few small gifts. party: He was so surprized & happy. He still thinks it was so nice for me & the kids to do that for him.

So maybe you could plan something else special for him in the future. A birthday make up as it were. When you know it won't be interupted. I bet he would be blown away. Just an idea. Again, I'm so sorry this happened! And ONLY because I know how disappointed you must be, I'll say " Go Bruins!":upsidedow

Aw, that is too bad. I was hoping for a happier resolution.

agnes!

On page 2 MickeySP asked if this was Saturday's game. maybe she is interested. :)

I did PM, was and we even have tix to the game on the 10th. I really wanted to help out I know how she feels.

We have had a few plans with family ruined but I chose this career so no tears.

Unfortunately I am working til 11p tonight then back tomorrow, oh I am a govt worker and I get in BIG trouble for refusing or banging in sick. :rolleyes1

My BF is stuck working all weekend. He does warehousing/inventory control with supermarket contracts and with 1 area supermatket on strike they are all pulling doubles. They have been told for the duration no Saturdays, Mondays or Wednesday off.
