Really thinking about it

Hi All

My wife and I are just about in position so we can finally buy into the DVC. I toured it when just Key West was offered and I wish I had bought into it then but finances would not allow.

Here is where I need opinions. I love old key west, my wife and I love the more laid back resorts, not really into night life or drinking. Should I try to buy a resale for Key West? Maybe the VWL? Being in my mid 40's not really concerned about a longer contract with a new purchase from Disney.

Any suggestions? Thanks Dave

Dave,

I just went through the same thing. I finally opted to go for a resale on VWL. I am now waiting to hear whether Disney will excercise their ROFR.

I thought about it very hard, and given my age, the extra 12 years at SSR was not a great factor. In the end, having stayed at WL many times, I decided that VWL was where I wanted to be.

Having said all that, one thing to weigh in your decision making is that should you choose to resell down the road, the extra 12 years at SSR could be attractive.

I thought about that too, but given that our travel pattern for the past 17 years has not really changed (WDW every 12 to 18 months), I was comfortable going for the resort that was first in my "gut check," that being VWL.

I suspect that there may be one small change in our vacation pattern. I think that with the points, and cheap airfares we may opt for a couple of shorter trips down to WDW, just to get away, rather than our more typical 7 to 8 night as we currently do.

Net net, DVC in my mind cannot be viewed as an "investment." I purchased it for other reasons. Given that it, buying where I wanted was more important to me.

If finances allow, then I'd definetly go for OKW...I own at OKW though and am a little biased:) Good points for resale to buy OKW though would be A.11month window if this is a resort you like best it can be very important rule of thumb around these boards is to buy where you'd most like to stay.B.Lowest dues of all the DVC's.C.Resale will cost less most likely per point. If you like VWL...that may be a better idea too as far as buying resale vs. direct since it is the smallest of the DVC's resorts and often times can be hard to book depending on when you are trying to book for.

Bad points for resale are that A.if you need financing, you're on your own ..whereas Disney will finance you. B.you have to pass ROFR on any contract you bid on resale. C.It will likely cost more Per point to buy direct...but there are some good incentive programs and you'd get the extra years.

So...if you can swing it, I'd go resale and buy OKW or VWL if that's where you like best but...these are all things to keep in mind;)

Best of luck!

you can't get more laid back than OKW....

most of my points are here - but I also have small contracts at VWL for either Halloween (mnsshp) or early Dec (mvmcp)....also have some at BWV for the wine/food festavial or again early Dec (candlelight procession)

sit down with your calender and decide where you will want to be when

you might be better off getting one large contract at OKW - or 1 mid size one and smaller contracts elsewhere.

just depends on how you like vacation and where.

sir if you liked the first time you saw it .............buy it...........it is a great resort..............

I agree with Bongo, just do it. We waited five years, and as you will find posted here quite often, our only regret is waiting.
