Ok ok, here goes for the dumbest question ever.

As an English girl I need to ask...

How do you pronounce Cay as in Castaway Cay?

Is it:

K? (as in the letter)

or Key?

Regards
Mel

It is pronounced "Key"..... Andy

It seemed like such a weird question but there are many things us brits pronounce differently to the Americans so I didn't want to sound silly saying it wrong when we finally get there!

don't worry about it - several Americans have trouble pronouncing it as well

It is quite deceptive since the Cayman Islands is pronounced KAY, that's what we went with until hearing it at Disney before we boarded... Who would know otherwise? Now it's annoying to me to hear my sister in law call it Castaway "KAY", even when I try to correct her, she still insists on saying it wrong.

Cay can be pronounced either way.

Both KEY and CAY are correct.

From the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary (my emphasis):

One entry found for cay.

Main Entry: cay
Pronunciation: 'kE, 'kA
Function: noun
Etymology: Spanish cayo -- more at KEY
Date: 1707
: a low island or reef of sand or coral

If you go to the site they even have recorded pronunciations.

Ya might as well call us stupid too, My kids and I say kay all the time, lol, even thou I know its key, at least they know what i am talking about....:wave2:
