Really Specific Question about Comcast Digital HDTV. Help!

DH and I are looking at getting a new Plasma TV for Christmas. It'll be a big screen one, a thin one. Well, as we understand it we will need to switch from our basic no frills Comcast Cable with Comcast Digital with HDTV. Ok, we can swing this.

Here's the problem, so to speak. We have TiVo. We LOVE TiVo. It sounds like if we go the Comcast Digital way we have to get their DVR and no more TiVo. Does anyone have this exact thing? A guy at the electronics store (Tweeter) said he had it and it was Nothing like TiVo as far as ease of use/user friendly.

I Really want the big screen Plasma TV (like 50 to 60 inches) but can't beara to part with my TiVo.

I have Comcast digital with HD and I have my TiVo hooked up, but I am having problems with it recording. Hmmm, never thought it could have something to do with Comcast. I had it with Cablevision in NY and never had a problem.

I'll have to give Comcast a call tomorrow.

They also said that with TiVo it will not record *any* show that is broadcast in HDTV.....not that it will record it but it won't be in HDTV, it just won't record it period. Wondering.,........

You might want to check over at the TiVo Community Board. They have a message board that addresses these issues.

I may be wrong, but I believe you need an HDTV DVR in order to properly receive the signals, so you might need to upgrade your TiVo to an HDTV version if you don't want to use Comcast's DVR.

So my advice is ask the experts over there, LOL.

With regard to the comparison between Tivo and Comcast DVR, someone posted a message on the DIS Community Board today which was very telling. It matched my experience perfectly: The Comcast DVR cannot compare to the viewing experience quality you get from Tivo.

Ahh! I want to have my cake and eat it too! I'll check out the TiVo boards (I didn't know any other boards existed except the DIS! and see what I can find out!
