What are school like on lateness to school and classes.
At my school it's supposed to be 3 tardies= 1 missed class, but that like...never happens. All my teachers took attendence at the end of class and many didn't care if we were a little late. My school's a little more strict on the late-to-school thing, though. All the doors but one lock at 7:25 except the front door and except on Thursdays. My school's weird and we have a late start thursdays (we start at 8 instead of 7:20). If you're late on a thursday here, you receive and automatic after school detention.
One of my friends grew up in Menorca (spelling?), Spain, but learned english at a british boarding school and speaks with an accent and she's insanely popular because of it.
For phones, it's the end of the day the first time, the second time and every time after that, your parents have to go pick it up. But most of my teachers just started humming to themselves if a phone went off in class. I had one really awesome teacher this year and if we were working on an assignment or whatever on the laptops/computers we were allowed to have our ipods out to listen to music because, in his words, "everyone has their own beat". But other than that, we're not allowed to have them.
My school breaks are: I get 3 days in November for Thanksgiving (a holiday that you'll get to experience for the first time! It's a great excuse to eat large amounts of food!), then about a week and a half for Christmas break, then a week in February, and a week in April. Then I get just about 8-10 weeks for summer break (it depends on when I get out because we get a lot of snowdays where I live! We got over 14 cumulative feet of snow this year!)
Other than that, my school is probably a lot more strict than others. We don't have a uniform, but there are restrictions on what you can wear (and most of it is sensible. ie: you can't wear a bikini to school).
