I dare all of you to make your condescending comments over on the gay and lesbian board. To come out is one of the toughest things to do, even if is apparent. I applaud his courage to come out and admit to the public that he is gay.

No one is making fun of Ricky Martin for being gay or making condescending remarks about him. The only people who could possibly be the object of condescending comments are the people who are actually surprised by the announcement.

I could care less if he is gay or not but am not surprised that he is and am shocked that anyone would be, that is all. Don't make it into something it is not and enjoy the chuckle.

Actually there is a thread on the G&L Board right now regarding his coming out, and everyone over there is saying pretty much the same thing - that it's not really 'news'.

Ricky Martin's music is one of my most guilty pleasures. I usually have much better taste in music (ha ha) and am a little bit of a music "snob." When I realized he was gay (several years ago), I was so disappointed. I was just sad that I couldn't think of him in "that way" anymore .

It's like when Clay Aiken came out. No one was usrprised then either.

Ricky Martin is gay. Okkkk, good for him. Hope he's happy. I really dont understand why in 2010, this is headline news. I'm watching CNN this morning discusing our Troops dying, and on the bottom of the screen there was a ticker that said, "Ricky Martin is gay." Seriously. Wow.

I've been a fan of his since 1984 when he was in Menudo. So many old friends put the news on my Facebook page thinking I would be shocked. I think I've known for 20 years. I couldn't believe that some of my old high school friends who were also fans were shocked. I know a lot of fans have been in denial about it for years. So I am really glad he finally said something. I'm very proud of him.

It's like when my best friend in college came to my house and said, 'there's something I have to tell you.' I looked over my shoulder at him and said in my best humourous tone,'what you came to tell me you're gay?', cause I knew he was since the first 5 minutes I'd known him. And his eyes got really big and he said, 'YOU KNEW?' He was serious. He had not admitted it to himself until a few weeks earlier. I had known him for 4 years, we were very close. He is my son's Godfather. We still laugh that *I* should have told him he was gay...maybe Ricky didn't know, eh?

My mom had a similar experience with an old old friend of hers. I think they went to Kindergarten together (so that would be in '49), and she knew pretty much from then. He finally came out to her in his 20s and was shocked that she wasn't surprised.

I was reading an article this morning...theorizing that he might have made the decision to be official about it now b/c of the comments of a well known Mexican singer saying ugly ugly things about gay couples possibly adopting babies. And no one said anything against her for something like 2 weeks. So that he, since he is still very famous in the Spanish language music categories, chose to come out now to "give a face" to the Latinos (their word...I'm still not sure what exactly that word encompasses, so I'm just using the word they used) to think about, when they think about a gay man raising children. That it could help Latino people.

Glad he finally came out - for those who don't care and thinks no one else does - really? He is asked in every interview - so some must care. It was his choice not to come out until now. Good for him - something that is NOT easy for many folks - for many reasons.

Because people in this country iaren't as progressive as they like to claim they are. And no, its not just the media. The media wouldnt report and write stories if they weren't selling and people didn't care.

Living in S Florida all my life, this isn't news to me. Its always been well known here. I know of a few stories of having to hide his boyfriend for Ricky to exit a building. I figure its a relief for him to have it official.
