Really Really Sad...please help

While I really can't help you with the vacation question anymore than has already been said, I can tell you things WILL get better. A few years ago, my Mother was diagnosed with lymphoma, about 6 weeks later she had a stroke. A couple months later, they found spots on my Father's lungs that they thought was lung cancer. It felt completely insurmountable. Long story short, my Mom has been cancer free for a number of years and it turns out my Father was misdiagnosed.

It's easy to say and tough to believe, but things will get better. Right now is definitely the hardest time, just keep positive for your family!!

I am so sorry that you are going through this.:grouphug: We were in a similar situation in 2006 except we were scheduled for a Disney cruise. With my FIL being so ill, there was no way we wanted to be on the ship or in a foreign country and try to arrange transportation back home. We went to HHI instead and kept in touch with the family and knew that we could easily fly home if needed.

Been there, too. I actually got to Florida for a business meeting and turned around the next morning to fly home when my mom told me my dad (who had pancreas cancer and had just had a stroke) had only about two weeks to live according to the one doctor that saw him. By the time I saw him the next day after a nightmare day of travel to get home, he sat in the hospital bed and told me "you don't belong here, get your *** back to Florida." The main doctor had decided the first doctor was wrong. I rebooked everything and we went back to Florida for the vacation part of our trip, I just missed the business meeting.

My dad DID die about 3 weeks after that first doctor said he had two weeks left. But one of my favorite memories of my dad during that horrible time was his comment to me from his hospital bed. He didn't want to disrupt all of our lives any more than he had to and he definitely didn't want me to be missing Disney. It ended up being a much needed break from all of the stress.

Maybe you'll be lucky and the doctors will decide they were wrong. Pixie dust works in mysterious ways.

I'd also like to express my sorrow with what you and your family is going through right now.

As far as your points are concerned, I have to agree that you should call MS and see what they say. Five years ago I was hospitalized 2 weeks before a scheduled trip to WDW. I had been sick for about a month previous to that but wouldn't cancel the trip because I just knew I was going to be fine by trip time. OK, so what do I know? Anyway, my DH called MS and explained the situation to them and they told him that there is a "one-time" exemption from losing points if you cancel within the 30-day window and we were able to bank them to the next UY. Now, I'm not sure if that is exaclty true (the one-time exemption thing) or if the CM at MS was just being kind and using the explanation of a "one-time exemption" so that we wouldn't try it again.

I have no words of wisdom, but words of hope.
Hope is a good thing.
I hope everything works out for you and your family.

Hope, health and happiness.:grouphug:

This is so crazy! We got the most amazing news today. The liver biopsy showed that the lesions are absesses....we can't believe it. He will need 6 weeks of intravenous antibiotics (at least). They may also put a drain into the liver to help get rid of the infection. Hopefully now that they have him on the right medicine he will start to feel better. He is still really sick and this will be a long recovery, but there is NO CANCER!

We are on cloud nine.

Prayer really does work. thank you to everyone.:flower3:

I can't believe how thrilled I am for you guys!!! I wish him a speedy recovery and hope you have a great trip :woohoo: !

I am so glad your story had a happy ending. May the recovery process go smoothly.

Thank you Lord for answering prayers. That is such great news. We will continue to keep you and your family in ours prayers and pray for dad's healing. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

This is AWESOME news! Here's hoping he recovers quickly!

I am just now reading this thread and skimming through the posts and got to your good news post. What an amazing thing! And prayer is a real thing. Miracles still do happen. God is still in control. YAY!!! Enjoy your trip! Pixie dust works miracles.

This is such a wonderful thread; happy endings are the best! I hope your trip is perfect (I am assuming you are now going on the well-deserved family vacation) and your father lives many, many more years.

Sharon

PS My Daddy is 92 and three years ago a cardiologist told us he had six weeks or less. Guess he showed him!

Amen!

Just now reading this too... and so thankful that you've received great news. In fact, I'd call it a miracle... especially with the earlier diagnosis being so certain.

I sure don't understand everything about this earth but I do believe in the power of prayer. And somehow, I think the prayers lifted for a stranger are extra special. I think it is awesome when you reflect back.

The good Lord has just walked us through the shadow of death with the passing of my father. I wish He would have designed a different way for us to leave this earth. But He was with us through it... and blessed us with so many miracles along the way.

So I pray for continued good health for your Dad!!! And many, many more years of miracles!!! Be strong in the Lord!

Hi Peanut,

Just want you to know that when I got to your good news post, I started to cry.

I am so happy for you. I know I love my dad soo much, and he will be 80 in October. I live one day at a time - just happy to know that he is still with me.

Now you will be able to have him for many more years to come,

Big hugs! OO

Connie

My dad is doing sooo much better today. They have him on the right medication and he actually got out of bed today and walked the halls! We moved him to a hospital in Philadelphia because he may still need a drain placed in his liver to drain the infection and the little hospital we had him in doesn't do the procedure. He is still having bad headaches. The docs say that he may have small absesses in his brain that they can't see on MRI. These should be helped with the antibiotics he is on.

Yay!!!!!!! I am as always, amazed by the kindness of strangers. I am so happy that my little girls will get to grow up knowing their pop pop.

I can now start to get excited about my upcoming trip:flower3:

Miracles are real. I've been blessed with one. I am so happy for you and your family. Celebrate at Disney like there is no tomorrow.
