really old mickey pin

We have a really old mickey mouse pin that has been in our family for years. My grandmother once babysat and lived next door to the Disney family when they lived in Chicago. The families stayed in touch after Walt went out to Californa and supposedly he sent the pin to them. We would love to know where we can get this pin appraised at. I feel that we should even buy extra home owners type insurance for it. We brought it to WDW and although cast members all crowded around to ooh and ahh- no one could give us advise as to how to value it. One suggestion was to list it on ebay- however its not for sale! Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks! Jen

You really cant put a price on a pin touched by Walt.

I would say considering what it meant to your family to have him send it to you that its priceless.

As to having it appraised, to some it will mean nothing, to a true pin collector or Disneyana folks it may mean everything.

But if you interested I have Susan Lucci AKA Erica dress that I might be willing to part with.

Try this put it on ebay with a really high reserve, and see how high it goes. If it goes up to your reserve you set make sure your reserve is something you would be willing to accept for the pin if indeed you decided to sell it.

Take the results of the auction to your insurance company to use as a reference, then insure it for at least twice that.

But be careful Ebay charges a fee based on your reserve, so if you set a reserve of say $1.000.000.00 your may owe over $1000.00 in fees. Read the fine print if you decide to do this.

Or contact Disney and ask them if they ever sold, or auctioned any pins that were touched by Walt and see what they sold for.
