I was at Barnes and Noble today and saw the most darling book to explain Asperger's. It is a picture book called "All Cats Have Asperger's." It explains what Asperger's is with photos of cats on every page illustrating the point. It is very informative, and very neat. It would be a perfect book for explaining Asperger's to a classroom, a sibling, a relative, or even to the child themselves.

For people who are “cat people” it gives an excellent frame of reference for “getting” the differences without judging them to be good or bad. For people who have not spent time around cats it is still informative but not at the same “gut “ level.

The last time we went to the library, I checked out "Look Me In The Eye"
http://www.amazon.com/Look-Me-Eye-Life-Aspergers/dp/0307395987

because it was the library and I like free! ;)

It was a good read! I did think of you, bookwormde, when I was reading it. It's a pretty cool story and the author has led a very interesting life. Not going to give any of us any big revelations into Aspie-ness, probably, but interesting to see how he used his gifts.

I disagree with your assessment. The book very carefully spells out what Asperger's is on a fundamental level, it refers to the "Asperger's child" not to cats at all. The cat part is just the pictures which are a sort of cute way to illustrate the points. I think even non-cat people would learn a lot from the book because of the way it addresses all the different components of Asperger's. Heck, you could ignore the pictures completely and just take the text and still have a wonderful resource, and you wouldn't even know the book had cats in it at all!

I did say it would be informative for everyone, but as a visual person and a cat person, there is a real strong “get it” connection to the pictures and related personal experience.

As a mental health therapist who works with "Aspie" kids and adults, I use this book frequently in treatment!

Found it, bought it, now love it; thanks for telling me about it!:thumbsup2

If you're referring to the cat book, you're welcome! I haven't seen the other book mentioned, I may have to check it out.
