Really, Kohls?

This is funny because DH and I always walk out of Kohls feeling like we stole stuff! We only shop the clearance and sale racks and only when we have a 30% off coupon. We look for the great deals and don't get something if we don't like the price.

I'm the same way. We often have coupons in our paper for $10 off at Kohl's-no minimum purchase or anything. So I went in and bought a $20 pair of earrings that were on sale for $12. Got to the register and handed her my $10 off coupon. Earrings for $2! Last week, I went in there and bought a lovely necklace that started at $35, marked down to $14. Yup, I got my $10 off coupon-necklace cost me $4. Frankly, I never pay attention to the "You saved...." spiel. They tell me how much I saved at the grocery store-it's usually about $15. I have no idea how they figure that!

You just have to watch what you buy. For example Kohls regular price for a Keurig Mini is crazy high. Their sale price is $99 which is the regular price at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond etc. With a 30% off coupon, their price was the best I could find anywhere.

Eta. The you saved number is dumb.

Can I tell you about the deal I got on a Keurig last November at Kohls???

It was originally $180, on sale for $150.
I had a 30% off coupon, so it was down to $105.
There was a $35 rebate from Keurig, so it was down to $70.
They gave me $10 in Kohls cash. So that $180 Keurig for my husband cost me $60.

I'm a kohl's fan but I find their pricing ploys silly at times. Still go, still find good bargains at times, but a lot of times it's smoke and mirrors. I do like the quality of their store brand tees so when I have a 30 percent off and they're doing their monthly "best sale ever" I stock up. I do find the "you saved" spiel ridiculous.

:thumbsup2 I also bought my Keurig for $99 there, plus a 15% discount and a 30% off I had - was a special deal to be able to use two 'percentage off' Q's. I knew that was a 'normal' price originally, but with my discounts it was a terrific price for me. I also got a $10 Q for later.

I don't regular buy at Kohls, but I do recognize when I truly do get a good deal, and that's the way I shop. They continue to fool a lot of people though! :confused3

Kohl's can drive you nuts. My dd works there and they are required to tell the customer how much they "saved".

My own gripe. My dad wanted a new pancake griddle so I decided I'd get him one for Father's Day. My mom had seen one in the Kohl's add on sale for $19.99. The sale ended before I got over there but I really didn't think anything of it because stuff is ALWAYS on sale. I get there and the thing wasn't on sale and the price was $39.00. I did not buy it.

I happened to be at Wal-Mart later that day and the same griddle was $19.99. I ended up finding a much nicer model that cost $29.99. Kohl's didn't get any of my money that day....Wal-Mart did.

YES, this is exactly what I'm saying. While I still think that's too expensive for ties, it is what it is. Those are the ones that he likes, so those are the ones that he'll get. Thanks for the poster who said that she found the same kind at Marshalls. I'll just have to find a Marshalls around here.

So no, I'm not mad, I'm not OUTRAGED (as someone put it) at the prices but it's like I said in the title, "REALLY, KOHLS?", do you think we're actually stupid to think that we've "saved" this much money shopping here when in actuality you just jacked up the prices to begin with? I KNEW ahead of time how much it was going to cost, because I did look at the price before going to the register (I was calculating to see if I met the $50 to get $10 Kohls cash). I'm just saying TO ME it just seems a bit high to spend $107 for one pair of shorts and 2 ties. Maybe I'm cheap, who knows. :lmao: That's all. My original post wasn't a complaint or saying that I would NEVER shop there again, it was just a simple vent. I have gone there before and scored really well (between sales/clearance/coupons/kohls cash/etc) I still remember getting 3 pairs of shorts for my son for like $22. I was like  I was a happy camper!

So, for the record....it was a simple vent.

But you didn't spend $107 on 2 ties and shorts so what difference does the original price matter:confused3? Kohl's normally uses the msrp as the original price when calculating the savings so they aren't even dictating that.

As for the price of ties, I don't think you can even find $5 ones from a street vendor in NYC.

I know in Michigan it is the law that everything must be off of sale for a certain number of days per year. You must have hit one of those days, unfortunately. I wouldn't have purchased it at full price either. Though they do do price adjustments for 2 weeks, so if it went on sale then you could have taken your receipt in and gotten some money back.

One thing Kohls does that no other store does is take stuff back until infinity. As long as your keep your receipts, they will take anything back for any reason. They will take stuff back without a receipt too but then you get an in-store credit for it.

I can attest to that! I had bought a large number of identical items online and for reasons I won't go into, I never wore them and at least 18 months later I took them all (still bagged and tagged) with my packing slip into a store and asked what they could do for me. $138 in store credit. I don't know of any other store that will do that!

I admit it. I love shopping at Kohls, they actually carry stuff in my size that fits. I only go when I get a 30% off coupon though. I do maybe 3 big shopping trips a year there go get clothes and other items.

You just gotta be savvy about their "sales". Last time I went I got 2 sets of Fiesta dishes, a Tervis tumbler, two pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans, 2 regular bras, a sports bra, exercise pants and top for less than $200.00. Got $30.00 in Kohls cash which I took back the next week with my coupon and got another set of exercise pants and top and a bath towel and paid a whopping $2.75.

Their math might be funny but it works for me.

TWO % off coupons? I'm so jealous!!

Bah. Hate Kohls. They might return nearly everything but they are super sneaky about their sales.

I've never set foot in Kohl's. After reading this thread, sweet cheeses, I don't think I'm going to any time soon. Sounds like too much mental work to shop there!

I love Kohls! I buy all my families' clothes there and always get great deals! I never worry about what they say I saved! I know what I saved!

It is not unique to Kohls. Every store I know of lists the retail price and then the sales price to make you think you are getting a bigger bargain.

Here is the link to the Jerry Garcia ties at Macy's. Note that there are 2 at $49.50 (no sale) and then a whole slew of "special sales, regularly $40.00" ties.

I just spent 17 for two items. I would not spend a lot on full price in there.
