Just got my bill from Time Warner, $9 per month hike for cable and roadrunner internet. Total of $131.60 per month for TV and computers

$104.61 watch and surf (no premium channels like HBO)
7.34 HD cable box rental
10.94 DVR service (like Tivo, and we rarely use it)
8.70 taxes and fees

I called customer service and told them to cancel the DVR recording service - no, I have to bring the box in and swap it out for plain HD box.

We have to have fast internet as both my DH and I offices are in our home. We don't need all these channels but this is basic cable and we have no reception without it. The rep said that is just their "annual price increase" - nice, I haven't had a salary increase in several years.

Ugh  Edited to add: new customers get the same thing $38 less per month...I said ok I'll cancel and resign up later, and he said they would not take me back under those circumstances (right!)

Have Time Warner Cable too...such a rip off! And lately there have been so many problems with picture quality, pictures freezing etc. Can't stand 'em and hate paying that bill every month:scared1:

If you really don't need them - go ahead and cancel. Last time I did because I was going to Satellite, they called me at the LAST MINUTE and offered me a very nice deal. i was quite annoyed because I had given them lots of chances and told them I was going to cancel if they didn't offer me something better. And each time they told me it was 'the best they could do'. Then, it ends up getting turned over to a different dept right before or maybe just after you do cancel and then that dept called with a much better offer. VERY ANNOYING that they can't do it for you sooner. I went ahead with the cancellation because I already had everything setup with the satellite company and had already spent a bunch of time on it. It was not worth it at that point to stay with them - but it would have been if they had offered it to me sooner.

Be thankful you don't have Cablevision. We lost HGTV and Food network on January 1st and they aren't even offering a credit on our bill. Our bill went up $5 in December and we didn't get anything new for it (it was on the cable boxes???). Now they are saying it's HGTV's fault because they want a "huge increase". They want to go from .25 per subscriber to .75 per subscriber. I don't think that's out of line.

TW threatened to drop Fox because of the money they wanted and was spamming customers to complain about Fox. I'd miss HGTV and Food but Fox, who cares? I can't cancel roadrunner cable internet because i need it for work and the alternative is Verizon DSL. I don't really want a dish in my yard either so I'm stuck except for trading the digital recorder for a plain digital receiver.

I've heard a legal alternative is a cable card, although I know nothing about how that works.

Call and ask for the retention department. They should be willing to deal with you. We did this a year ago and we were able to retain the same services we had an add HBO or Showtime for the same price. We did have to sign a 2 year contract but it was worth it to us.

Our bill is for cable on 4 tvs, dvr on one, phone service and wifi internet.

My TV alone has increased to $90 per month - no premium channels - with DirecTV. I am trying to hold out until AT&T U-Verse is available in my area. I can package my TV-internet-local land line for about $100 per month.

I have Comcast, who bought out Time Warner a few years back. Well, I was late paying my bill & with the late fee it was $204.77. Now I have digital cable, internet, and phone service through them. We ordered 1 movie due to report cards coming out & DS9's GPA was 3.78 & DS7's GPA was 4.0 (both for the 2nd time this year). I wish I could switch companies, I would in a heartbeat.

I have comcast as well and I am seriously considering cancelling my cable all together. It is just ridiculous the cost!!! If I cancel my cable all together would we get any channels? Sorry if that's a silly question!

No I don't think you would get any channels. Last year I had to disconnect everything to pay for upcoming hospital costs & had no phone, no tv, no internet. Thank God for Friends on dvd!!!
