You're right. We should be more respectful and use all his initials. BHO.

Why that? What's so hard about using President Obama? Or just Obama?

Oh nevermind......why do I bother?

I have participated in some of those threads and have never said anything disrespectful toward the man. Well, at least nothing I would consider to be. I have said that I don't like the job he has done thus far, but that is my opinion. I don't think it is disrepectful.

I also have participated in political threads and I have never said anything disrespectful toward any of Presidents past or present.
I think it is fine to disagree with presidental policies, bills, ect., but calling a President (past or present ) names /or demonizing a President is low down and quite childish in my opinion.

It's just easier to type BO. Just as it's easier to type GWB. I think some people are reading disrespect where there is none.

:thumbsup2 Why do we all have to "give Obama a chance" when no one gave Bush one? Why was the Bush bashing okay but Obama bashing isn't?

I gave President plenty of chances.
In fact I gave him 8 years of chances.

So please count me as one for giving President Bush chances.
(Now you will be able to cross out your "no one gave President Bush a chance" the next time this comes up again.)

BTW:

Bashing any of our President's past or present is not OK in my book.

Me too-I wanted him to succeed. Even when I disagreed with what he was doing, I wanted him to prove me wrong and succeed. I would rather have been wrong and have the country be in better shape than be right and have the country in a mess.

I didn't call him "Shrub" or "Bushie" or any of the other "nicknames" that people refer to here. I tried to call him Pres. Bush all the time, but I admit that there were times when I used Bush. I do that with Pres. Obama too-I try to use the title, but there are times when I only use the last name.

I'll admit, I got angrier and angrier over the years with what the President was doing and how things were going, but I tried to maintain some respect. While I disagreed sometimes vehemently with his choices I tried to remember that he was a loving father and likely believed that his choices were the correct ones for the country.

Why not? He promises to fix this country, lickity split, but then changed his tune once he actually got into office..."It will take longer than one term to fix this nation"...Nope, sorry, that's not what he campaigned on.

Here is a scorecard to help you keep track:

The Obameter Scorecard
Promise Kept ...........18

I agree, and we've seen it done with presidents from both parties. I really don't think our current president is having a tougher go of it than any previous president. It is part of the job. I remember after GWB's first election people (I wasn't on the DIS then, but I'm sure if the DIS was around back then there were similiar threads.) were adamantly saying that he was not their president and never would be. They would never support him because he stole the election and things like that, so clearly there were people out there that never did give him a chance. That was their right. Now, we see it happening again. I'm not saying that it is right or that I agree with it. I'm just saying that is the way it is, and Obama is getting no worse than anyone else. I also think it is important to remember that while a lot of people did vote for Obama there are also many that didn't. Those people have a right to voice their opinions and not support the president just as much as people had who opposed and demonized Bush.

I also predict it'll happen to our next president, too, and the one after that.

NEW RULE

Let me sum up, they are racist, and are hiding it behind other issues. in my opinion.

RUM?

To borrow a bumper sticker slogan popular during the Bush Administration (and changing it a bit)

"Dissent is NOT Racism"

Imagine that. Conservatives have MAJOR disagreements with one of the most Liberal Democrats ever to make it to the White House. Obviously it has nothing to do with policy and everything to do with the color of his skin.

But why must the titles be inflammatory. After all it sums up the content of the post so it's like reading the post. Does that make sense?

For instance the thread title that say (paraphrasing) say something nice about Barry. Well, his name is not Barry It's President Obama. Posters here called him Barry pre-election knowing it would bother people. A title can be just as bad as the contents. So by referring to him as Barry is just another dig.

The "say something nice about Barry" thread ment say something nice about President Obama?

Oppsie....

I posted something nice about Barry Goldwater!

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

I agree. While I am sure that there are racists out there who dislike Pres. Obama ONLY because of his skin color, I believe that most of the disagreement comes from policy and philosophy differences.

His name is not "president Obama" President is a title, not a name.

Barry was his nickname, people are going to use it, just like they called clinton bubba...

But when I read the name "Barry" I think of Barry Goldwater.

When President Obama was a child family members and friends called him "Barry". It was a nickname he gave up a long time agao.

When people insist on calling an adult by a childhood nickname they gave up long ago I feel it is a sign of disrespect.

FWIW:

I never called President Clinton "bubba".

I have to disagree there. I think it's just too easy for people to go low brow and use the whole BO thing as a dig. I don't think it has anything to do with easier typing. It's very "high school" to me. I don't mind when people state their opinions, that's what this country is all about. I just think it diminishes ones opinion when it starts off with "BO this" or "Dubya that".....

Oh please. I give nicknames to my kid and my animals.

People who use "Barry" in reference to President Obama are being snide and immature. I'll be honest and say that when I referred to President Bush as "Bushie" or "Dubya"...I was intending to be snide in reference to the man that I saw as an incompetent twit. Let's not pretend it's anything but what it is.

Where was I pretending it is anything other than what it is? I said that if that's the worst thing he is called then he's doing pretty good, and that people are going to do it whether you like it or not.

I'm much more likely to take someone's point seriously if it doesn't start with something that I consider immature.

NEW RULE

I agree, some of the threads are strange. but after skimming a large number of them, I am of the belief that they are pinging on him because they are simply prejudice against a black President, but since it is NOT P.C. to use racist terms, they find the minutiae of his life and take it to the maximum level of ridicule they can manufacture out of it.

A level headed person would agree that a few months in ANY job making high level decisions will not immediately fix problems, let alone the magnitude of the one the President of the United States has to accomplish.

Let me sum up, they are racist, and are hiding it behind other issues. in my opinion.

RUM?

I suggest you take a look in the mirror and you will find that you are simply nothing but a Race Baiter which in fact, makes YOU the Racist.

For the past three plus months every time I've wandered onto the community board I've seen countless new threads demonizing President Barak Obama.

Multiple times during the day I have found new threads digging incredibly deep to find any sort of minutia to twist and lambast...attempting to take any small tidbit of information and manipulating into a lengthy diatribe how within a mere two months in office this one man has cursed our nation.

Really...? Two months...?

You know I don't care what each and every one of the DIS members political leanings are...nor do I care to know the details of your personal politics...but I do know it's incredibly insane...yes insane...to believe that any sort of policy...package...etc...that's been enacted in the brief time President Obama has been in office has had any opportunity to be deemed a success or a failure yet!

I know the GOP and all its followers are still upset they lost the election...and who can blame them? Still the level of petty threads I have found here by President Obama's detractors is just...well it's just sad...

He's teleprompter dependent?

He's snubbed the Prime Minister of England?

He's compared himself to Lincoln?

I've read the source articles on these three subjects...and I'm sorry the threads that have derived from them are really reachy!

And these were just a few examples...I could go on...but honestly...it kind of turns my stomach.

Now I know what will be said...'what about the years of Bush Jr bashing?'...and I can't argue with there being years of it...but honestly...the man was in office for eight years...he earned the complaints he garned here during his presidency!

Oh yes...and I did my homework and went back in the DIS forums as much as possible...I found virtually NOTHING back when Bush Jr was orignally elected! Sure there were a few "Bush stole the election" threads and the like...but really...that's about it. Then...as Bush Jr's terms in office mounted...and after 9/11 and things in Washington and abroad began to crumble...the anti-Bush Jr rants mounted...but only then!

In closing...really my biggest upset is just how devisive the Community board has become. All the political nagging...for lack of a better term...makes me sad. Especially when as far as I can see...the majority of it is incredibly pre-mature.

Sometimes the truth hurts, even if it is the Messiah:worship:
