Really...enough already!

Godwin's Law needs a corollary relating to the invocation of "Marxist" rapidly following the posting of a positive about President Obama.

Ahoy Grumpy, good observation on the motivation. Can the Captain have a couple o' gills o' rum?

I'm not exactly certain what you're implying...but if it's what I think it is (and it's late so my brain is mushy)...then know I don't appreciate it.
PLEASE don't feel that way - I'm siding WITH you! You're right, it was late - I was trying to be funny - you know, 'you can talk until you're blue in the face' and you won't change peoples' opinions (no matter HOW reasonable your own point of view is)?

I'm sorry it fell flat :(

What I just learned in 2 minutes of reading is that I am racist because I don't want trillions of dollars in debt passed onto my kids. I am racist because I don't want human embryos used for scientific experiments. I am racist because i don't like congressional earmarks. I am racist because I don't want caskets of our dead military personnel shown for public display. I am racist because I don't think a tax cheat should be leading our treasury department.

What I do know is that the majority of the voters in this country elected Barack Obama in November. He is our president, and as much as I disagree with his policies, it will be that way for 4 years. I also know that I have the right to disagree publicly, and by these boards, I know I am not alone.

I don't care for Obama's politics. I'm not racist and I'm not Republican. I don't post often on the political threads because they get my blood pressure up too high. There have been a huge number of threads about how much people hate Obama (let's face it, there's a lot of amunition right now). In addition, there have been fawning nauseating posts about how wonderful he is as well. Different strokes for different folks.

That being said, I find many of the posts in this thread insulting. I have a right to my opinion and I will NOT allow the bully culture to strip me of those opinions. I will not let the media tell me that if I disagree I am small minded. I will not allow posters to tell me I am somehow bitter about the election and too immature to let it go and "give Obama a chance". The man has, in the short period he's been in office, managed to bankrupt my children, threaten my livelihood and make outrageously stupid foreign policy statements. That is my opinion....don't like it? Too bad.

Now I don't generally open or post on the threads about this stuff, that said, I wonder how many of us are out there and keeping our mouths shut in an effort to promote the peace. But our minds are active.

I don't like his politics, not because he's bi-racial - I don't care if he is purple with pink polka dots - his political/social beliefs are downright scary.

That said, some of the threads are a reach - when the title/first few lines seems so ridiculuous - I don't open it. Rabid anti-Obama posters will post some things that I just won't take the time to read.

On the same token, IMO his supporters are SO pro Obama, they don't see anything wrong with things that reasonable people should.

He is not perfect - and does seem to be either blindly followed, or blanket-y condemned, depending on which side the poster is on.

NEW RULE

I agree, some of the threads are strange. but after skimming a large number of them, I am of the belief that they are pinging on him because they are simply prejudice against a black President, but since it is NOT P.C. to use racist terms, they find the minutiae of his life and take it to the maximum level of ridicule they can manufacture out of it.

A level headed person would agree that a few months in ANY job making high level decisions will not immediately fix problems, let alone the magnitude of the one the President of the United States has to accomplish.

Let me sum up, they are racist, and are hiding it behind other issues. in my opinion.

RUM?

Wow. This may be one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read. I am not a racist and I wholeheartedly do not approve of the stimulus bill or other things Obama has done while in office, regardless of length of term. If we had a white female President and she was pushing the same political agenda, I wouldn't approve of her either. Race has absolutely SQUAT to do with it.

I find devisive politics offensive period...and it saddens me in a community like the DIS boards it has to exist. We have to deal with this rhetoric everywhere else in our lives...I just feel these boards could be...and should be a safe haven from it all.

I'm idealistic...I know and I make no apologise for it.

Where were you for the last 8 years? Today you decide to get tired of divisive politics?

How do you handle other threads that bother you? Me? I skip them altogether.

I think you need a

I'm calling Baloney Sammich on this.

So what if you are participating in a fluff thread and then some come in and turn it political. How would you feel about that? Why should we get pushed out of threads we enjoy. :confused3

Free speech is a wonderful thing.

Day 1 of his new job was a month and 1/2 ago. He's been busy with executive orders, etc. If we don't agree with his decisions, we get to say so. Keeps him accountable. That's part of the beauty of being Americans.

Ahoy Grumpy, good observation on the motivation. Can the Captain have a couple o' gills o' rum?

Can we have one for "racist" too? PLEASE!?!?!?

How often does that happen? There's also the ignore feature. Or reporting to the mods. Or kindly asking the offending poster to stop. You have options.

Ignore doesn't work because quoted material of an ignored poster will still show up. Reporting won't do anything because what is the basis? Asking to stop. You are a funny one this morning. ;)

The point is though is people should show enough courtesy to not inject their political opinions in on a thread where they are not warranted.

We have nothing to gain from listening to other's opinions all day and night. Make up you own mind and then keep you opinion to yourself. Simple.
Really? Honestly? Regardless, Freedom of Speech is a wonderful thing.

Alrighty then....

I have participated in some of those threads and have never said anything disrespectful toward the man. Well, at least nothing I would consider to be. I have said that I don't like the job he has done thus far, but that is my opinion. I don't think it is disrepectful.

ETA: And since the race card has been played, I should add that my not liking his policies has nothing to do with his race. Saying this is a racial thing is as crazy as saying those of you who did not support JC Watts or Alan Keyes are racists.

So... you don't like the threads being about him and you start another one about him... :rolleyes1

I don't agree with him at all, or his policies for that matter, but it's not because of his race, height, sex, or that he has two kids and wears blue shoes. It's that I think he's not doing what is for the good of the USA. I also think that he's shady because he keeps all his records "private" when others don't mind revealing theirs. If you are a public figure being voted in by the public, the public should be able to access your information just like anyone else that is running. It seems there must be something to hide there or he would be putting it out there.

You know it's amazing to me how many people are commenting on my OP along with follow up posts and apparently really didn't read what I've written in its entirety. :confused3

I did not write this as a "pro-Obama" thread. He just happens to be the man in office at the moment.

I have countless time addressed the "last eight years" debate.

Please...if you're going to take the time to respond to something here...no matter who's post it is...PLEASE take the time to actually ready it first!:rolleyes1

I agree OP- but I don't see how this is any different than the multitude of Bush bashing, or Clinton Bashing, or Carter bashing or Reagan bashing.... (etc) threads there have been. People get riled up about politics, Obama is the big cheese now, he's gonna be in the hot seat, that's just the way it is.
