7 months ago I had weight loss surgery that only allows me to eat very very small portions. I have 3 small children and we're scheduled for several character dining experiences. It's killing me to know that I'm going to have to pay such a huge amount for and adult meal that quite honestly I can barely eat. I have a card from my surgeon stating this fact~do you think they will cut me a break and maybe only charge me a child's fee for the buffet's? I know it's probably a long shot but I was wondering if anyone has ever had any experience like this.

By the way~I've lost 100 lbs! WOOhooooo! Can't wait for those turnstiles in Disney now!!!

Congratulations on the weight loss. 100 pounds is amazing. I'm not sure if Disney would allow you to order from the child's menu, but it's worth a try. I think that they might make an exception since you can't possibly eat that much. Good lucK!

Wow! Congratulations on your weight loss. Great job. Unfortuantely I dont have an answer for you on what they will or can do for you, but Disney does seem to be very accomodating to special needs, so you may have some luck.
I feel your pain though. I have a DS who eats nothing. Up until our last 2 trips he was always free at the buffets. Now we have to pay for him. At Chef Mickeys he literally got a bowl of cereal and only ate the marshmallows out of it. Im hoping next times the marshmallows are made out of gold. ;)

Good luck, hope it works out for you!

Congratulations on your weight loss!

I sure hope that Disney would cut you a break! Good luck!

I don't know about charging you less for buffets, but you can certainly order from the childs menu and you can share meals people do it all the time.

At the buffets (with the exception of Cindy's) I THINK you can go in with your family and not eat - you just have to pay an entertainment fee. You might want to check this out.

Well, I know that they are usually very accommodating to special dietary needs. All of the places to eat that can accommodate these needs have this line on the WDW site.

This location can accommodate special dietary needs (such as allergies to gluten or wheat, shellfish, soy, lactose or milk, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, or eggs). Special dietary needs can be accommodated if ordered at least 72 hours in advance at 407-WDW-DINE

I'm sure that someone at that number will be able to help you. They also fix kosher meals, vegetarian meals, etc.

Congratulations! Let us know how your trip goes and how WDW accommodate's this fast rising need!

I think I'll give them a call in the morning and see if they've dealt with this before. I know they will accomodate special diets, but this may not fall under that category.

Thanks so much about that tip with the Entertainment Fee. I'll let you know how I make it, it may help someone else down the road.

Please let me know what you find out. A member in our party recently had a weight loss surgery as well (the end of March) so I would be interested to hear how/if they accomodate this.
Thanks for the post and congratulations on the weight loss!!!

I am SURE you're not the first person to have the same issue, and that Disney has already figured out a way to deal with it. Just call and ask, and then get back to us =) You won't be the last to ask, I'm sure!

Disney is VERY accomodating with special needs... I'm sure you can figure something out in order to save some of that money!

I'm bringing up this old thread to see if anyone has any updates. DH is considering surgery & I remembered this thread.

On your weight loss... :D
100lbs is amazing.

I wish I had remembered where, but somewhere in this board someone has mentioned that they brought their doctor's letter to the restaurant and showed it to the CM before the meal.
Depending on the CM sometimes he/she got the price slashed (I'm not sure if it's discounted or kid's price).

So I'd say bring your doctor's letter and see how it goes. It doesn't hurt to ask.

And don't forget to post your experience on the board ... :D

Congratulations again, that's a great feat!!

Cyn :cheer2:

my dmil and dsil both had that surgery and when we were eating at Ohana's one night htey did give them special protions and a special price. they server was great. i would ask hey the worst they could say is no.

I remember too reading a thread about this topic and I believe the poster said the mentioned it when making PS and showed the letter to their server and or rest. manager and were given special consideration. I think Disney tries to be sensitive to these type of medical/food issues.

Good luck and congrats! :cool1:

I too have had a gastric bypass. So, when I called to make a PS at Chef Mickeys they gave me the number to call about special dietary needs. I spoke with the PM chef and he told me to bring my doctors note and ask for the manager when I get to the hostess stand. He said they have dealt with this before and have no problem accommidating the need. So, just bring your note and you should be able to get it for a discounted price. I too was worried about paying a fortune for a couple bites of food. This is why we chose one buffet meal for the entire trip.(We split meals the rest of the time)

On our first trip to WDW I was 6 months out from surgery and could eat only a couple of bites, literally. (I'm 2 years out now and can eat slightly more) We ate at the Beirgarten and I paid full price. Even though it was good, I felt like I had left my arm and leg there after we paid the bill. :D

We also did Whispering Canyon on that trip and when I told our server that I had had surgery and asked if we could take our leftovers, he said he would only charge me for the childs buffet. So, don't fret.

What an accomplishment! Congratulations on your new healthier lifestyle!

We met friends there a couple weeks ago, and she explained she had the surgery to the seater at Trail's End and he did ask for her card from the doc (she asked about being charged Children's prices). She didn't have one, but he gave it to her anyway. I heard him telling another couple that there is a special card the doc usually gives and that Disney honors those. So I would say yes, you should get a deal on the price. Obviously, if you (not you per se..you anyone) order a full adult meal, you would pay for that, so I assume they expect you to order accordingly. I know my friend ate accordingly. Congrats on the weight loss.
