Really cool sibling names

Okay, not a concentration camp, but there was forced labor and enslavement of Jews in Dresden, which is now held up by Neo-Nazis as their Hiroshima. Still, even if I liked the sound of it as a name, most certainly not something I'd want my kids associated with.

I like some Germanic names, too! We considered Gretchen for our little girl. :)

I think the others are okay, but I really don't like Dresden as a name. Of course I am not a fan of place names as people names anyway, so that's probably why I don't like it. My first thought when I hear Dresden is Dresden china.

Huh, I immediately thought of the Dresden Files - a series of books by Jim Butcher. It was also a short lived tv series on Sci-Fi.

My ex-husband named his identical twin sons William and William. I guess you could say they go together.

I love offbeat names too as long as they aren't silly. In one of my college courses I sat next to a girl named Sutton and I always thought it was sooooo pretty. However the girl in front of me "Spring Waters" Ummmm not so much!

All girls:

Iliana
Eleni
Riley

:goodvibes

I hear "Dresden" and I think "bombed out city" and "china." No, I'd never name a kid that. I collect Wedgwood, but I'd never pin that name on my child either. :lmao: Not Noritake, either. If Lenox was a family name......maybe. :rotfl: I'd also skip Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

George Foreman named all his sons "George" I think he has at least 5. Don't know what he calls them, though--George 1, George 2 and so on???

I wanted my sister to name her twin girls Rebecca and Elizabeth and call them Becca and Beth.

Dresden wasn't just bombed, it was firebombed, with phosphorus shells and napalm that flowed down into the basement bomb shelters as it burned. Wartime or not, it was a HEINOUS thing for the Allies to have done. Over 20,000 people were killed in one night by the firestorm, and most of them were civilians.

I'm not sure I understand the rationale of naming someone after that city, but it could be meant as a way to remember, I suppose.

My boys are Cody and Shane.....traditional names, but both 'western', my niece is Cheyenne!

I have a weird 1st name (Star) but my sister's name is worse.....Panda! As in the bear, our brothers are John and Robert. My dad named the girls.

I am of the feeling that if you want weird names in your family...change yours! Don't burden your children with names that they will be made fun of for.... Granted "Star" is not THAT bad and I have 'grown' into it, but growing up I HATED it and the teasing that came with it!

But...to each his own!

My association is the Dresden Codex (one of the four remaining Maya codices). I learned to read them in college for the astronomical information.

My username-- tzolkin-- is a Maya calendar. I considered giving one of my children a related name, but didn't find something I liked enough.

HA! I HATED my name growing up...I've grown into it now...

Is Gretchen really cool?!?!? :cool1: I've finally made it....:rotfl:

LOL, Our homecoming queen in 91 was named Gretchen...so she made it cool too I guess :)

Dresden was a concentration camp! It would be like naming your kid Auschwitz! :scared1:

too bad because i thought it sounded like a cool name too

I like Dresden.

Thanks... not my daughter, but I thought it sounded cool. Didn't know the names origin or it was a city, but still like it the same.

Most people would probably say they don't like my oldest daughters name (Rayden), but guess that's why We name our own children :upsidedow and not other peoples kids :flower3:

phosphorus shells and napalm ...

Just in case Dreden's parents need anymore thematic names;)
