Really Annoying Weight Loss Commercial

One thing that really honks me off are the magazines that say *I lost xx pounds and went from a size x to a size y*. I just recently was reading an article where the lady had lost weight and is now at 5' 3" and 150 pounds wearing a size 8. I would really like to know where in the world she shops ~ as I am 5' 3" and 138 pounds wearing a size 10. Do these editors really think we are that niave?? I am a pretty gullable person ~ but they cannot get me on this one!! ;)

Yes it is for headaches ~ and YES it DOES work!! As a migraine sufferer, I have tried just about everything out there....and have seen the ad's, so I decided to give it a try. There are different kinds ~ I got the migraine one ~ and it has a very cooling sensation when you apply it....and it actually does help!

The commercial giveth a headache, and the product Head On taketh away! :rotfl:

As far as these weight loss commercials go, I actually feel bad for people who think you need to be a size 2 to be beautiful. They are missing out on what life is all about. I am currently a size 16, some 14's and my goal is to be a size 12. I have absolutely no need to be smaller than that. I do not care what my weight is as much as what size I wear and how my measurements and body fat are changing. I like developing muscles and being curvy and feminine. To me, women should not all be a certain size- some women are naturally straight or thinner, some are naturally larger or curvier and as long as they are healthy and confident, they will look beautiful.

In fact, I've made it kind of my mission to show how beautiful someone my size can be. I dress well, do my hair, makeup etc. and stand tall because all too often I see people saying they're going to wait to buy a bathing suit, or sexy lingerie, or a dress until they're a size x, or people who wear stretch pants and long t shirts because they're embarrassed. I just want to tell everyone they don't need to wait- they can find clothes that will make them feel confident and shapely now.

And I too, love the commercials for Weight Watchers and Curves- that focus on being healthy and staying active and enjoying life, not being a size 2. In fact, I work at Curves after my workday as a teacher ends. I love watching women get stronger, happier and more secure in their self esteem.

In fact, after posting this, I feel like putting on some "Cher" and doing a little spin! :dance3:

I always wonder that too. I'm 5'5" and at 150 I wear a size 14.

Weights, heights, measurements, sizes, etc. is a very "rough" science. for example, if I measure myself accurately and match it up to a catalog's chart, it says that I am a size 16 in my chest, a size 14 in my waist and between a size 16 and 18 in my hips. Some people might wear the 14 and have it fight tightly and someone might order the 18 and have it fit very loosely.

It can vary if someone has large bones or small bones, whether they are high waisted or low waisted, their body fat percentages, hydration levels, whether you weigh in the morning or evening, etc. Even age makes a difference because bone mass and body fat have a tendency to change as one ages.

Part of my job at Curves is to weigh and measure our members. It amazes me to see the different ways the same weight can appear on a person. A woman who weighs 180 lbs and is 5'6" at age 25 and works out at 80% capacity every day and has 32% body fat will wear at least two sizes smaller on average than a woman who weighs 180 lbs and is 5'6" at age 85 and works out at a lower intensity. Broader shoulder bones or hip bones will equate to larger sizes even if the person weighs the same. I had a friend who weighed about 30 lbs heavier than I did, but we wore the same size pants. her weight was distributed differently than mine is because her chest and stomach are larger and her hips and thighs are smaller.

Oh, and let's not forget that

size 14 at Old Navy doesn't = size 14 at Wet Seal doesn't = size 14 at Ann Taylor doesn't = size 14 at Lane Bryant doesn't = size 14 at New York and Co.

I had a size 8 dress that I wore when I was 112 lbs all the way up until when I was 160.

Oh, tag fairy are you "listening"? :teeth:

You know, I thought it was me when I was in the GAP yesterday looking at a pair of size 6 jeans. They looked SO tiny! I was a size 6 in college (not anymore! ;) I've had two kids 23 months apart! Can you say WEIGHT WATCHERS!??! :lmao: ) but not THAT size 6! I think the sizings are getting smaller and smaller.

I'll second that - have a tendency for migraines myself and didin't want to ruin a recent WDW vacation - brought everything I could think of, including Head On and when the migraine started, I used this in addition to my regular (and not always successful) medication and it worked really well. :thumbsup2

And someone asked earlier what was in it or something like that - it's an all natural product that you can use in addition to or instead of what you are already taking - my combo using normal meds plus this worked nicely. :goodvibes

Now - back to those stupid commercials - I hate them too - I am way beyond a size 12 and it ticks me off for a size 12 to come on TV and tell me what a weight problem she has - aarrgghh!!! :furious:

Who decided that women over 35 should wear the same styles as 98# 15 year old girls? Why can't there be a happy medium between high school and nursing home fashions? Shirts that aren't clingy knits, pants that don't show my butt crack, shorts and skirts I can bend over in without fear and underpants and bras that shape and enhance rather than stick it out to jiggle everywhere or strap it in like a steel trap!!! :furious:

:rotfl: :rotfl: Oh, it's a good thing I am typing because no way can I talk right now!! I SO agree with this. Try wearing these clothes when you would wear a normal 1X and you don't want it to be skin tight. I would venture to guess that most of us who are overweight are not actually trying to show off that fact and would like some clothes that camoflauge and flatter instead of saying LOOK! HERE IS MY TUMMY ROLL! HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? Ugh. And bathing suits are worse. I am going to water aerobics and while the little skirted suit I have for haning around at the beach is fine and actually I like it, it does not work for aerobics. That little skirt doesn't stay down in the water. However, the powers that be in swim suit design have apparently decided that we who are a size 16 or above cannot wear anything else. :sad2:

I'll have to look for it again, but I swear she said she was a size 2, after losing 33 pounds.

I am pretty sure she says size 2 also because she holds up two fingers. It is annoying and honestly, she doesn't look like a size two to me anyway.

No, no, no! We do not have to suffer in a little skirt! No more oppression! :thanks:

I will not wear any swimsuit with a skirt and my suits are all 14's and 16's. Most of them are from cyberswim.com and they are really nice. I have two tankinis and one halter style one piece. None have skirts. I have also heard Land's End has nice ones, but I haven't checked yet.

I also hate the commercial where the lady who wants to wear the itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini is hiding behind an air mattress because she's too embarassed to come out. She moves the matress and she's bony thin. They could have at least gotten someone normal.

I remember the days when most women in swimsuits on tv were slender, but curvy. Now apparently even bony women are too fat for the beach unless they eat yogurt.

That commerical is the second half to the commercial where they show the same girl during the winter eating the yoguart with her bikini up on the wall as motivation.

So not only do they not say exactly what it's for, you also can't even buy it? That makes sense! :thumbsup2

Oh, this thread reminds me, I also hate that Relacore commercial. Maybe I like my stubborn belly fat.

It's an infomercial product "not sold in stores".

On a thread about it--I did google it and you can order it on-line.

I wear a size 10-12 and am otherwise the same size as you.

I think my bones have something to do with it and though I flab a bit--there's some muscle in those legs of mine.

So even then people can be the same "size"--but not be the same "size".

weird how that works. :confused3

Don't knock the skirt.

I could be a size two and I would still probably wear one. Sometimes I like to walk around not looking like I'm in my undies. :teeth: But the skirt wasn't designed to be a flab hider (if that makes any sense). You can still see my thunder thighs. :rotfl2:

It's cool for those who like them. I just wanted the other poster who asked why all manufacturers made 16's and above with skirts to be aware that some manufacturers have found that some women don't like the skirts and are making ones without them, too. I wanted to make sure she knew she had other options. :goodvibes

That is why I like jjill. Many different sizes, cool clothes but not jr's if you know what I mean. I really like that I can find petite shirts, all the shirts now are too long for my 5 foot frame. (but I can find pants that fit, go figure.) Good sales sometimes, but I often just bite the bullet and buy them for the normal price if I want it enough.

Anyway I am 5 foot and about 115 lbs currently. I am somewhere between a 4 and an 8 depending on where I shop now. I was a 10 or even 12 before when I was around 130 something. (now remember I am only 5 feet tall.) I am one of those people who was meant to be a size 2, but birth control pills, then 2 babies put an end to that. It feels good to be back down, but I still have a ways to go. (I am thinking I am going to stop here though. ;) )

Oh, and I like a skirt on my suit, but I prefer mine to come off. I hate it floating up in the water. I would rather have a good rap any day. Tankinis are great though. All the ease of a 2 piece, but still all the coverage of a one piece. I may never go back to one piece suits again!

I *love* J Jill. As soon as I get the catalog, I dash to those fuchsia tabbed pages for the sale items! If you don't get those ASAP, they're gone!

I know and I thought the first commercial was fine. I'm sure many people could relate to wanting to lose some weight to fit in their swimsuit better.

The part that bugged me was her STILL being embarassed of her figure and having to hide behind her air mattress until she took her magical bite of yogurt when she doesn't have an ounce of flab on her. Who can relate to that - extremely thin people with body image difficulties? They could have hired someone who looked more normal instead of the extreme thin that the media pushes.

I posted about this commercial back when the woman went from a size 10 to a size 4! Imagine my disgust to find the new one going to a size 2!

Gee, and we wonder why kids have such a problem with self-image. :guilty:

Actually, that commercial is more tue than you think. I know a lot of people who have lost weight and look GREAT, and what they see in the mirror is their heavier self. It is quite amazing, that your minds eyes sees something totally different than what everyione else sees. I can go as far to say that even PICTURES. I lost a ton of weight years ago. I went from a size 16 to a size 9. I had never been that thin in my life. I look at picture of me, and I ask my family, how they thought I was so thin, I still looked fat. The size 9 jeans told me I was not fat, but all I can see in the pictures is a fat person.

So, a person in a bikini hiding behind an air mattress is believable.
