Some backround: my roomate got sick over the weekend and is behind on her homework.

So I got into bed tonight around 10 and watched some TV. Around 11 I asked her to shut off the overhead lights because I wanted to go to sleep. So she turned them off and put on her desk light, which literally is about as bright as the normal overhead lights. Its now 12 and she's still awake doing homework. She's listening to music so loud that I can't fall asleep. And to make things worse I looked over and she was using my favorite pen!

I know its not really a big deal, i just haven't slept well all week. And I basically stayed out of the room while she was sick (both for her benefit and mine). I've already asked to her to go down to the lounge but she says she needs her computer. I just want to scream at her. Thanks for letting me vent

*Edited because I my fingers can't type as fast as my brain thinks ;) *

Throw a pillow over your head and try to relax. I know it's hard having a roommate. My roommate and I would always fight about the overhead light. It was flourescent and she hated it, but I couldn't study without the light sometimes. Fortunately, that was our biggest conflict. We lived together all 4 years, but only the first year in the same room.

mom? I'm confused.

My roommate freshman year would kick me out of the room at 10 so she could sleep and then get up at 5 in the morning and start typing (this was before computers and it was LOUD!). She actually thought this was reasonable. I was perfectly willing to lgo study in the lounge, so she could sleep so I couldn't figure out why she couldn't go in the lounge in the morning. She wouldn't listen to me, but finally stopped when the neighbors complained it was waking them up as well.

I feel your pain!

Have you tried using one of the...um...well, I want to call it an "Eye Patch" :rotfl: but that's NOT what it is! It covers both of your eyes and has an elastic to hold it on. Anyways, it Really helps to keep out light. They used to sell a really good one at Bath and Body Works, but they are sold elsewhere. As for the music, I'd talk to her and ask her to please keep it off or leave the room when you are trying to sleep.

Is your mom your roommate? :confused3 If she is, I don't think I would yell at her. ;)

:confused3
I'm confused. You are the child, but the Mom is in school and uses your bedroom late at night to study? :confused3

I think Meg left out the word "roommate" in her opening statement. I believe she meant to type "my roommate's Mom got sick....."

Meg - my DD is also a freshman in college. She lucked out and got assigned a single room in the dorm. It's a very tiny room - but at least she doesn't have to contend with the issues you are having. Although - she has some VERY noisy people just down the hall from her. (We're talking staying up until 4:00 am at least 3 nights a week. And yes, they've been reported to the RA numerous times and promise to be quiet but soon go back to their old ways.)

sorry about the confusion! My roomates mom did get sick, and she did as well. She actually spent some time in the ER last weekend because she couldn't breathe. The fluid around her lungs got "sticky" so she basically couldn't breathe. Things are better now, we talked the next morning and she said she was sorry and the next time she would go down to the lounge. I guess it wasn't a really big deal, I was just tired and cranky at the time ;)

I think it's great that you accomodated her when she was ill, but I also think it's time to set some boundaries so hopefully it doesn't happen again. Ill or not respect is vital, especially in a roommate situation.

You're probably very fatigued and stressed..... Take care of yourself!
