This is probably the wrong place to post this but I know how lovely you DIS'ers are and I know you will cheer me up!

Mine and DBF trip next month, well 4 weeks today to be precise! I have had pretty much a year since we booked the trip to lose weight and I have been lazy!! :(

I have put weight on, not lost it and have joined the gym 3 weeks ago and play table tennis on a Thursday night!

I am disappointed that I have no will power and I will look horrible in my pictures on this amazing trip! I need support folks :)

I've done the same many a time. Don't beat yourself up about it.

There will be people of all shapes and sizes at WDW you won't stand out whatever you look like. And do get some photos of yourself there - I've been to WDW 4 times and you'd think I'd never been because I always avoid the camera due to my size. (A bit silly really because everyone else knows what I look like anyway!)

Spend the next four weeks getting as fit as you can and then ENJOY your holiday.

Honey don't be down WDW is such a wonderful place you will have the most amazing holiday no matter what size you are. Also just remember that there are more Pooh sized Americans than there are English folks so I'm sure you wont feel out of place at all :hug:

As a short term fix try the Dukan diet. It's not something I would recommend long term but for a quick fix I can from experience say that it works. Just google it and you'll get all the info on it ...... best of luck :hug:

Thank you all!

I am a size 20 bottom and top! I am not afraid to say! I am tall though so I don't look as big as I am!

I just needed to have a rant about my lack of will power! I will be trying so hard over the next 4 weeks! I actually enjoy going to the gym too and playing table tennis I just need to watch my food!!

Sorry to moan about it on here! :)

You will be smaller than 85 - 90% of the people there!!!!

On a serious level, you've joined a gym, great. Now you need to forget about your actual body weight and instead focus on how you feel your body looks. A lot of people forget that working out at the gym builds muscle mass, so weight loss is not the be all and end all. After all, you can lose ½ lb of fat and gain ¾ lb of muscle, so technically you've put on weight, but actually, you've lost useless fat tissue and gained useful muscle mass.

Also, what's your nutrition like? Have you changed your eating habits since starting the gym? The golden rule here is to watch the calories, saturated fat and sugar contents of food and drink. To tone up and 'lose weight' properly you should be taking in 500 calories less per day than you expend, so for the average female that's 1000 - 1200 instead of 1500 - 2000.

The philosophy "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper" works well, don't eat past 7pm if you can really help it (the body metabolises less while you sleep). Nothing wrong with carbs, just light at dinner time as they provide slow release, slow burn energy. Nothing wrong with sugars, just not at the breakfast table as they provide short bursts of energy and will leave you wanting lunch by 10!

Eat right, exercise well, and drink lots of water!

Enjoy a coke / pepsi? Switch to Coke Zero or Pepsi Max - no sugar and the calories are t-i-n-y - average 2 calories per glass instead of 150!!! Drop half a sugar from your coffee or tea, and switch to fully skimmed milk from whole or semi. If you pop into costa / starbucks etc on a regular basis, always ask for whatever you have skinny, they change the milk to the non-fat stuff. tastes a little more watery but so worth it.

Lots of small changes make a big difference, it soon becomes routine, and you'll be feeling great about yourself :thumbsup2

Dont worry about moaning, theres plenty of us here in the same situation.
Me especially.
I really struggle to lose weight, my diet is pretty healthy but I lose very slow.
I book holidays and plan to lose loads for them but only lose about 3 stone. Then the week or so before the holiday, I tend to get into holiday mode and put a fair bit back on. I also tend to gain very quick.
Im a lot bigger than you and have no problems at Disney regarding my weight. I still have an amazing time. :)

I tend to follow SW but are now in favour of the Dukan diet, they are similar in certain areas but Dukan is a lot more strict.
I think with only 4 weeks to go until the holiday, just try to cut back on the excess foods, cut down on portion sizes and drink loads of water. sounds like your exercise is going well, perhaps make sure you do loads of walking too.
good luck.xx:goodvibes

DW was a size 20 last february when we were in WDW ... and TBH she was worried about her size and in the end she even felt like she was slim when compared to a lots of other guests.
You don't need to be weight conscious when your in WDW

wanna talk about being "big". I was 350+ lbs, 5'4"" and wore men's size 52 pants 4XL T-shirts
I never felt out of place or like someone was giving me strange looks

Thank you for your advice :)

My diet has suffered over the last few weeks! I haven't been eating particularly well (slaps wrist) and it is something I WILL be stopping!

Wonder what I can do in 4 weeks...!

Wonder what I can do in 4 weeks...!

Simple things.

If you drink soda (coke, or other fizzy stuff, even light/diet versions) just stop this instant. Any soft drink should be put off the menu too. Water is your best friend.
If you drink beer, or any kind of alcohol, stop right now, they are made of pure calories.
if you eat between meals, stop, drink a cup of unsweetened tea if you're hungry. hot beverages will fill you up and help you last until the next meal.
Banish fried food (no fish and chips, or stuff dipped in batter)
Never eat pasta for dinner, they're too much energy for the night. eat them for lunch (easy on the butter, cheese, and sauce ... pasta sauce being the worse for calories and cholesterol)

downsize your servings (I used smaller plates, because smaller plates equal smaller servings)
whatever you're having, once your plate is empty, it's empty, no "refills".

No Dukan method, or weight watchers. Just basic common sense

Like I said above, I was 350+, I'm now 230lbs in under 18 months. Still some weight to lose though, but I still lose weight on a regular basis (3 lbs a week) eating whatever I like (even deep fried food, chocolate, and basically everything I want). Did I mention that due to a condition I cannot exercise ?

I just avoid those calorie packed food/drinks

I've been on a Disney Diet recently and understand where you are coming from. The trick here is to really focus on what you can achieve in 4 weeks.

Can you give up 'white' foods like bread/pasta/rice for wholewheat options?

Can you give up sugar for 4 weeks and increase your water intake?

Really watch your salt intake as that can hamper weight loss.

Increase general moving, can you walk to/from work? Take a longer route of you already walk places? This will also help build endurance for walking around the parks!!!

In the gym it's important to NOT over do it, over training can be as bad as not training.

You can (and will) achieve loads in 4 weeks, it's gonna be a massive pain in the bottom but it'll be worth it :-)

Keep us updated on how you are doing sweetie. Xx

I am completely there with you...I get SO annoyed with myself for my lack of willpower and how easily i slip. Its so frustrating.

But, hey, that's in the past now and there's no going back, so don't worry about it!

I'm pretty much the same size as you and i'm trying to lose weight for our first Disney trip in January too.

In 4 weeks, i would concentrate on lots of walking to get yourself ready for the parks. Do they give you a programme at your gym? They usually do and give you a set routine of cardio and strength. Cardio for weight loss and strength for toning...you'd be amazed at what toning can achieve.

If you can avoid white carbs, great, if not, have no more than 2 portions per day. Avoid take-aways or limit to once per week. No fizzy drinks. 2 litres of water every single day.

Water is a biggy. It will really help stop you feeling hungry, hydrate you, make your skin better, etc. A work colleague recently lost 7 stone and puts it largely down to stopping drinking anything except for water and making sure she hit that 2 litre minimum every day.

Other than that, do things that will make you feel content and happy, such as a nice hair masque, relaxing bath, pedicure.

Make sure you have an incredible holiday with lots of pictures and memory making..then get back to it when you come home so you don't feel like this next time. You CAN do this!!! Do it with me if you like xx

another overweight person here so know where you are coming from...

I think most overweight people know EXACTLY what to do and not to do but its just the sheer will power to do it....

I have two medical conditions and it makes it extremely difficult to lose wait but it can be done.

Personally I wouldn't let it worry you now as you are so near to your holiday and there is no point stressing about it now..just accept that you haven't done what you set out to do, try and be good until you go on holiday, enjoy your holiday and come back and start in earnest then...

I know that feeling well. I tend to get into the holiday mode early, esp as I run down the food in the fridge and then just buy basics to last (take aways) :rolleyes1

The only thing to think of, is dont go too strict.
I know people who go way ott with dieting beforehand, and then go on holiday and eat crazy amounts.
Its not good for the body. They end up being sick for the first few days, as they struggle to cope with the rich food.

have you followed a particular diet recently? If so get back on track and do your best. :)
If not cut back on the 'extras' and be proud on whatever you lose. :wizard:

I hope you do great too! I'm sure you will and I hope you have a great Disney trip :yay:

xx

Good girl...great attitude!

Like previously said, don't overdo it, you don't want to cause yourself an injury or anything and when you get to Disney you can really enjoy it and then come back and tell us all about it ;)

I will do! Thank you :thumbsup2

I have been going to the gym and cutting down on my snacking etc. I am really good during the week but fail at weekends. I have recently taken up Zumba and that's great fun. Does your gym offer classes?
Over all I have a goal size rather than weight so once I get to that and I'm comfortable I will be happy. I've got a dodgy thyroid so it makes it tough. Starting to see results now though so keep going it will be worth it. :) even in a few weeks you will start to see results. And the age old rule of the faster it goes on the slower it is to lose it in my case is so true.

I can totaly relate to everything you are saying, you will feel small compared to lots of other guests! I think good fitness is more important than weight or clothes size......we booked almost 12 months ago, with huge intentions to get fitter & a lot lighter, but my mum was taken ill just after we booked, she has been very ill, needed 24 hour care really, so everything else has gone out of the window, but sadly mum passed away 5 weeks ago, now we have to decide if we still feel up to going at all....

I was the same last year my pictures were awful, anyway due to a benign(thank god) cyst in my mouth I had dental work in September and was unable to eat crusty bread crips sweets for quite a while meaning I have lost 2 stone to date :) mind you I'm hoping the qsdp doesn't pile it all back on :(
