Can I really buy 50 points? The CM I talked with said the min. was 160. I am interested in BLT.

Also, what would be the benefit of buying just 50 points? We will not travel that far for less than a week, and we wouldn't be able to use 50 points to book anything.

Ideas?

Best place to start is clicking on link on upper right for DVC points charts; to get a better idea on what is a workable number of points for your situation do some calculations :teacher: based upon which resorts you'd like to stay at, times of year most likely to travel & size villa you'd need. It may be difficult to get alot out of 50 points in a Use Year but that 50 points can be banked into upcoming Use Year (or borrow from next upcoming use year) to give you 100 pts to utilize every other year or with both banking & borrowing that provides 150 pts every third year.

Best wishes planning :goodvibes

Many here have reported that they did in fact buy in with less than the 160 points.

I agree, however, that 50 points does not get you alot, unless you are traveling during a low point time and using only studios if you plan to visit every year.

If you know you want to travel down for longer periods, like a week, then you need to decide how many points each year you will need. If you won't be traveling yearly, you can buy 1/2 the points to cover every other year trips.

Once you have an idea of what would be an ideal number of points, you can decide if you can afford that to start.

Good luck!

Well, I guess the real "benefit" is that you can join into the DVC system for a (relatively) low dollar figure, and can then add on at your leisure. Of course, like you said, 50 points isn't going to get you very far, especially at BLT. We just booked 3 nights in June, 2011 for a standard view studio at BLT and it was more than 50 points. However, you can always bank/borrow your 50 points to vacation every other year to stay about a week. BUT, I would say that for someone who wants to travel every year for a minimum of 7 days, you will need to shoot for closer to the minimum buy in of 160 points. Good luck! :goodvibes

I know that I will be repeating some of what was said or implied here, but 50 points could be worth it to you....it all depends on how you look at it. Let's say that you are the type of person that must pay cash (avoid credit) for everything and you only have $5500.00 to spend now. Buy your 50 points, use those 50 for a 3 night stay at a DVC resort and then transfer to a "cash" resort or offsite. Then maybe the next year, you can afford another 50 points so you add on. And as Crystal said, banking and borrowing could be used to your advantage to turn your 50 points per year into 100 every other year.

We would probably be able to do the 50 points in cash pretty soon. Then we would add on hopefully in the near future. I may wait and try to buy in at 100 points, then add on the additional at a later date.

I guess I just didn't know we could buy in at a lower amount than the 160.

Also, I will probably be taking a few 3 night trips to run in the marathons so, it would get me those stays in the mean time. . .

Buy two 50pt contracts. If you want to sell you get more for small contracts and they sell easier. Ask if OKW with Disney at $90pt and no closing costs is still available. OKW has lower pts per night.

While it's true that OKW has the lowest points for most size villas, I wouldn't necessarily limit myself to OKW. You can use points from any resort to stay at OKW, and except for December there is usually availability at 7 months at OKW.

You know you can get OKW or SSR for $90 pp with no closing buying direct.

If you are not in a rush (and if you are, I'd caution you against rushing), I would contact some of the resale brokers and put your name on a "call list" for small contracts. You might save some money, even after paying closing costs, or you might be able to get more points for the $4,500 50 points would cost going direct.

If you decide to wait until you can buy 100 points, go to the DVC Resale listings link at the top right of this page. Click that, and then click "sort by price." You will get the list sorted from lowest total price to highest. See what you can get for about $8,500, figuring you will pay some closing costs. You may be surprised how much difference resale makes when you move beyond a minimum purchase.
