Reallocation of Points

I have a reservation @ BWV for two preferred-view studios for Nov. '03. I borrowed points (Dec. Use Year) for part of the Ressie. One of my waitlist requests for a standard view has come through. However, since I borrowed the points, I cannot return them to the original Use Year (Dec. '03). BUT I have enough BCV '02 points to cover a "Reallocation" (coud not use originally b/c outside 7mo window)...

Does anyone know if I can "Reallocate" may points so that the borrowed points are used for this ressie and the BCV '02 points can be banked?? Thanks for any help!!

Hi, eagle29. I am not sure I understand your question completely, but I'll try.....
It looks like you have BCV points from May '02 use year? Is that correct? If so, you must use thise points by tommorow, or they are gone forever. You will also receive a new batch of BCV points for your May '03 use year. You can bank those into your '04 use year to 'replace' the '04 BWV points you borrowed for the Nov '03 ressie.

Again, I may not have understood your question correctly, so I could be tad off here.....

I think I explained this poorly. I used my Dec. 2003 BW points to make ressie for Nov. '03 I also have BC points (Dec. '02 still available) When my waitlist came thru the gave me back 17 points that I had borrowed for the ressie, but because they were borrowed points I was told that I can not return them to the original use year (Dec. '03)

I was just looking for a way to get those 17 points back to Dec. '03, but I may just go back to the preferred view and use the points...

Could it be that eagle29 had a typo in his/her question.......I think she said may points but meant my points??? I took the question to mean they are all December use year points(some current, some borrowed) but now she would like to bank some of the 2002 points that are no longer needed because of the downgrade to standard view and thus the ressie uses fewer points?

Since I'm a newbie and have borrowed points but have not had to cancel or change ressies I don't have an answer............I would suggest to call MS directly. Please post back when you find out because it will be helpful to those of us not in that situation (yet!)

Okay, gotcha now. Indeed you can bank 17 BCV points to your Dec '03 use year. The only downside is that those points will always be BCV points, and can not be used at the 11 month window at BWV.

Does that answer it, or do I still have it wrong?

If I understand your question correctly the answer is no unless you could cancel and rebook. To substitute the BCV points for the BWV reservation you can not just have them change them out. They must cancel the reservation then rebook using the allotted points, in this case a combination of BWV and BCV points under the 7 month window. You should talk to MS because the implemenation in this area has beenhit and miss. Some have been allowed to do as you request but most not unless it's available anyway at the time you try to substitute the points.

Of course to allow you to sub the points if the resort is booked up would be the same as getting the 11 months window using non home resort points and would not be fair to owners there.

The 17 points were borrowed from the BWV Dec/03 Use Year and cannot be banked or returned to the Dec/03 Use Year. They have to be used by November 30, 2003 or they are lost. Even if they would allow you to reallocate BCV points for the BWV reservation, the points you have already borrowed from Dec/03 still have to be used by November 30, 2003.

The Dec 02 points can still be banked into the 03 Use Year. Maybe you can add a night or two to use those 17 borrowed points.

Doc, indeed I agree. I was just pointing out that they could maintain the same 'total' point levels for their '03 use year by banking '02 BCV points. I was under the impression that the OP wanted to replace points into their '03 year, and did not care which resort they came from.

First understand that you cannot use the BCV points for a BWV reservation by reallocating points. As Dean explained that would be like getting an 11-month reservation using non-home resort points. Basically they would have to cancel the BWV ressie and make a new ressie using BCV points. This would be done at 7-months.

Of course in this scenario you would lose the standard view because as soon as that was cancelled it would go to the next person on the waitlist. You might not even get preferred view at 7-months if they're all reserved already.

Now if I understand you right on the other part of your question, you made the BWV ressie using only BWV points since you made it at 11-months. (You apparently have two home resorts BWV and BCV)

Was the original BWV reservation made with ONLY borrowed points, or was it made with a combination of Dec 2002 BWV points and some borrowed Dec 2003 BWV points.

If ALL the points were borrowed, then there's nothing you can do and those 17 points would have to be used by Nov 30 2003 or you would lose them, so in that case it may just make sense to keep the preferred view.

However, if the original ressie was made with a combination of 2002 and 2003 Dec BWV points, and at least 17 of them were from Dec 2002, then simply inform MS to be sure to use the borrowed points for the waitlisted standard view, and that the 17 returned points are to come from your Dec 2002 use year. You can then simply bank those points into next year (Dec 2003's use year.)
