I just called MS for something and asked a question on when the 7 month window starts. I have heard the window starts on your check in date and now they state it is the day after the check out date???? Also I thought to use your DPs you had to cancel and rebook the room. MS just told me they just send a request to reallocate the points :confused3

As you can see depending on availability it could have an impact on points and the vacation. The reallocation of points would seem to be the easiest for everyone but also understand that it has to do with how they are given out and accounted for etc.

Soooooooooooooooo..................................:teacher: what is the deal thanks for the input in advance:worship:

Booking windows are 7/11 month from the date or departure from your resort.

As far as reallocating points, folks seem to have gotten different answers. Since DPs have no home resort, and are only available at 7 months, they are supposed to be used based on current availability. In otherwords, if the room would be available for a new reservaton at 7 months, they can reallocate, if not available, the they can not, basically the same as cancelling and re-booking.

The reason for that it is unfair to other owners at your home resort, it would be like making a reservation at 11 months, then changing the reservation to use points from a non-home resort, thus giving you the ability to bank or rebook another 11 month priority room with those same points. It defeats the purpose of the 11 month window to simply swap points if availability isn't available.

The best option if available is to book the new room first then cancel the existing reservation after that. As Chuck says they are not supposed to sub the points if the room is not available but I'm sure it's happened knowing how inconsistent DVC is.

Yeah I thought of that but I don't have enough points to hold both reservations. From my understanding if I brought in the 2009 pts (borrow) they are then stuck there for that use year? If I canceled them they wouldn't go back to be 2009 points:confused3

Anyway no worries I will just call MS until I get someone to do what I need them to do. They are really nice but I understand why so many people are confused, I'm new to DVC and feel I did some solid research etc - thus understand the system pretty good. But WOW every time I call I get a different answer to some piece of the puzzle. Today I had to explain the DP rules to MS - she was nice looked it up and said "wow you are right I didn't realize that......." :rolleyes1 All I did was explain the 7 month booking rule for DP :teacher:

These boards are great, I get more info from here than anywhere else so thank you :woohoo:

Even then if you've got some points, do what you can as a duplicate, always leaving weekend points days as the last one to reserve and the first to cancel.
