Reallocating points between two future reservations ?

Trying to find out if the reallocation described below is possible.
We have a reservation in February made completely with current year points.
We have a second reservation in April that is made with some borrowed points.
Both reservations fall in the same use year.
Both reservations use points from the same contract.
I do not want to take any chance of losing either reservation.

We will definitely use the February reservation and anticipate using the April reservation, but if something comes up and we need to cancel the April reservation, it would be better for us if the borrowed points were associated with the earlier February reservation. Does anyone know if MS can reallocate the borrowed points from the April reservation to the February reservation and reallocate the current year points from the April reservation to the February reservation?

Note: I called MS and asked, but the first thing the representative who answered suggested was that she cancel both reservations and try to rebook them. That was the last thing I wanted to do, so I said no thanks, and ended the phone call. I was going to call back and see if a different representative had a better understanding of whether the reallocation I am requesting is possible, but sadly, I think I will get more accurate information here. Especially if someone here has actually done this (or tried to do this) before.

The kind of reallocations that I have seen being allowed in the past involve taking borrowed or banked points that were in no reservation and putting them in an existing reservation while taking current use year points out. The problem you have is that the borrowed points are themselves locked in a separate reservation and I do not recall seeing before anyone reporting that the kind of switch you desire was allowed, i.e., likely you have to first get those borrowed points out of the April reservation via at least a partial cancellation before they can be switched with current points in the Feb reservation. Nevertheless, you may want to call MS again and see if you can talk to a manager about the situation to see if a switch can be done.

I agree with drusba that this has not been allowed in the past. Points can only be reallocated if they are available and your points are not available, they are tied up in reservations. You would have to take the risk of cancelling the April reservation, quickly reallocating points, then immediately rebooking the April reservation. That would involve risk that one or more of the days in your April reservation could be gone. I understand your desire to do this. Because of DH's health conditions we have been in situations where one reservation is more "firm" than another.

Just wanted to add, that if you find someone at MS that says they can do this, make sure they are a supervisor, or someone who seems very knowledgable to you. I have had some really bad things happen when MS makes changes to my reservations. Some bad things that could be rectified by a supervisor and some that could not be and I just had to live with the results :(

GREAT advice!

Agreed. I am not going to request MS touch anything since it is 99% likely we will use both reservations.

However, if you did cancel the April reservation, you should be able to reallocate to the Feb assuming outside the 30 day window for the first day of the reservation.

In order for them to reallocate points, they have to be available..not tied up in a reservation. If you cancel the April reservation outside of 30 days, and before your February trip, then MS can get those points reallocated for you. But as long as the points are tied up in reservations, there is no way to do it without a cancel and rebook.
