Realistic Time to book Spring Break Travel from DTW

This is my first trip that will take place right before Easter. I am flying Spirit, NWA, or Airtran. Airtran doesn't even have flights past Nov. Spirit and NWA are showing 300 a ticket.

I can usually fly for 120 or less round trip from DTW. When should I really begin to consider purchasing my plane tickets? I have started to check everyday for price drops. If any other Michigan travelers know what prices I should look for as "good" prices, please let me know. I would like to stay around 200 if I can help it.

Spirit's prices have been ridiculous lately. Unless you are planning a last minute trip, the prices are outrageous. I even sent them an e-mail telling them that I am a loyal customer, but they forced me to choose another airline because their prices are completely out of line if you want to plan a trip several months in advance.

We are flying Airtran for the first time in January out of Detroit. I couldn't resist the fare of $77 each way, plus tax. These are non-stop flights both ways and I've read some pretty good things about Airtran on these boards.

Anyway, for that savings I'm willing to give them a try. NW was about $323 per person and I paid $513 total for three of us on Airtran.

I have been able to snag some good prices on SWA leaving on Good Friday and returning on the Thursday after Easter. This past year I paid $228 r/t from DTW for my DH and was able to use my RR ticket.
