Real thoughts on Hollywood and Vine?

I am planning my dining for an early December 6 day trip. I am having a problem with HS. I love MM and 50's PT fried chicken is the best however, we try to dine someplace new each trip. At HS the only place we haven't eaten is Hollywood and Vine. I was thinking it might be nice to do Minnie's Holiday dinner. Is the food really as bad as the reviews state? I know we could park hop over to Epcot but we have a handicapped friend coming with us and we want to limit our park hopping because of the time involved in transportation. She is also a very picky eater so I am looking for someplace with a lot of choices and nothing exotic. The last time she came with us we ate at MM and she ordered spaghetti. I would like honest opinions please.

My family has never found it to be as "bad" as most people make it out to be. It is certainly overpriced, there is really no doubting that. However, that argument could be made for a lot of places at Disney World. The best comparison I have for the food would be similar to a Golden Corral. Decent, not great, and made in bulk. I am fine with it, especially since it is a character meal. There is always something that I like (usually many things) and my kids are happy.

Again, to each their own...but I think you will find it better than a lot say

My friend got food poisoning from Hollywood and Vine in February and it ruined the rest of her trip because she was sick to her stomach for the whole last day of her trip with her family. I didn't know she was eating at Hollywood and Vine otherwise I would have told her not to. She and I going to Disney in 2 weeks for a girls trip and I assured her we wouldn't be eating there, lol!

We ate dinner at Hollywood & Vine on our trip in April and it was our first time eating there. I had read/heard pretty much nothing but terrible reviews of the place, but - as with everything at WDW - we wanted to try it for ourselves.

This was Minnie's Springtime dinner (not sure how much they change the food offerings as their seasonal theme changes). We all enjoyed the food very much. Our party was two kids, aged 8 & 5, and four adults who all have experienced and enjoy fine dining but also have a realistic expectation for food at a theme park buffet. There were many salads (vegetable, pasta, and grain) as well as roasted vegetables and all were fresh and tasty. The entree options we had (stuffed chicken, pork with some kind of chutney, roasted turkey, a few different kinds of meatballs, among other things) were hot and very good. We all enjoyed the dessert options more than the ones served at the MK Sparkling Dessert party, which we had done the night before. They had the typical kid buffet offerings which my kids enjoyed. We ate at prime dinner time, so it was loud and somewhat chaotic (as to be expected at a character buffet), but our server was attentive whenever we needed more drinks or plates cleared.

The best thing about our dinner was the character interactions. The characters were all dressed in spring outfits and were all very sweet and really interacted well with our girls, giving autographs and photos and involving the adults at the table. We didn't feel rushed even though when the characters passed through the restaurant was packed. We actually enjoyed these non-speaking characters more than most of the face characters that we interacted with during our trip.

We had gone to Chef Mickeys on a trip in Sept 2015 and we enjoyed this food much more than that. We are actually planning to go back for the holiday-themed dinner on our upcoming December trip.

Are you sure she got it there. Or did something just not agree with her. It takes 24 hours for food borne pathogens to develop into that kind of illness in most cases:

My family did Minnie's Holiday Dinner at H&V last year and really enjoyed it. The characters were great and we all found plenty of choices on the buffet that we liked. My son can be picky but he loved the corn dog nuggets and baked chicken. Everything seemed fresh and well-prepared, and they kept the buffet restocked so it never got tired-looking. I was happy that there was a CM actively "policing" the dessert bar and preventing unattended children from helping themselves with their hands.

It sucks that your friend got sick, but there's no way to know for sure where exactly she got sick. Besides that, an anecdote of one person getting sick one time isn't a reason to convince people not to go to a specific restaurant.

It's fine. We went there for lunch in 2013 for the Disney Jr. Character lunch. Obviously you're mostly paying for the character experience and covering the overhead/waste of a buffet.

The food isn't going to wow you, but I wasn't turned off by the place.

We went last summer for dinner and really enjoyed it. We had 2 of our sons and my sons gf. They were 18 year old and 12. My son’s gf has celiacs and she really enjoyed her choices. The chef came over and made her a special dish, honestly I think it was Mac and cheese. I am going back at Christmas time. The characters were great. My only issue is that the seats are close together. Go and enjoy. It was definitely one of our favorite meals.

We ate there once. Not great, but wasn't terrible. The kids enjoyed the characters. That said, our kids are older now and we won't be going back. Too many better choices.

We went in with very low expectations based on the reviews, but we actually really enjoyed it. The food was hot and fresh and there were lots of options. The characters were great. We were then in early Nov so we caught the last day of the Halloween theme. It was really fun seeing the characters in costume. I wouldn't hesitate to try it!

I am considering H&V in December or early January just for Santa Goofy! I tell myself that the food cannot be worse than Chef Mickey!

We are another one that had low expectations but went anyway, and ended up really enjoying it. The theme of the place is cute. We were there at the start of breakfast and the food was plentiful, hot, and fresh. Loved the options too - much more than I was expecting.

We've been twice for F! dinner package & are booked again for this June. It's a typical buffet and we all found things we enjoyed. We've also done the breakfast and it is one of my favorites.

24 hours sounds about right from when she ate to when she got sick. Personally I've just heard too many bad things to want to roll the dice and eat at hollywood and vine. Overall Hollywood studios needs to improve their dining options.

It's enough to scare me away. That and the many other consistently poor reviews. For the price of eating there, there are better options around Disney.

I really really dislike the food and the service. It is the only restaurant on our never again list but I have to say it has been perhaps the best buffet ADR for character interaction. If you have little ones it is worth sucking it up and going.

OP, just like with any restaurant in WDW you will get mixed reviews of people who love it and those who hate it. My suggestion is always to try things once and form your own opinions!

We did the Minnie's Seasonal Dine for lunch a few weeks ago and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the food was pretty good and the character interaction was great. This is one option in HS that I would actually go back to!
