We have an artificial pre-lit tree that I love. It's so pretty and big - touches our ceiling! I love that I don't have to worry about the watering or mess from the pine needles. But I do miss the smell. You know that fresh pine scent. Mmmmm....... I've done both and for the sheer ease of it I prefer fake. What about you?

I like them big AND real!!!
What? Why are you all looking at me like that?

I usually go to one of those cut your own tree and find the biggest one that will fit in the house.

I haven't had a real tree since 1971, and I don't even miss the smell of pine anymore. I like being able to put it up after Thanksgiving and leave it up till Jan. 1st.

Fake - because I used to put mine up on Thanksgiving and keep it up well into January..

For the pine smell I would buy pine incense; pine candles; scented pine oil; etc. No one could ever tell that my tree was artificial - every year people would rave about it and ask me where I went to "cut" it.. The funny part is the tree was 32 years old when I finally got rid of it!! :teeth:

I have 20 foot ceilings....I NEED a HUGE real tree! :p We usually get a 14-16 foot frasir fir. :cloud9:

we have a fabulous tree farm around the corner but use an artificial because we like to enjoy the tree for several weeks and the live trees dry out too quickly. for the pine smell i go to the tree farm and get some small boughs they've cut off while shapeing the trees, i cut them in small peices and put them in bowls of water around the house.

We used to cut our own down too.

When DH and I moved away and had to travel back to family for the holidays we had to go to artificial because the thing would be dead by the time we got back.

Fake. I like to leave it up a long time.

Myst

Don't want you to think I am picking on you at all...but I just have to add my "live tree knowledge"...LOL :p

I always buy my Christmas tree on Thanksgiving.....that booger lasts until a few day AFTER Christmas. Of course I buy it from a nursery and they make sure to have a hole drilled in the trunk so the tree can "drink" water during the season. :wave2:

Fake. Two of them; one in the living room and one in the basement family room. I'm allergic to the real thing, and it would drive me out of the house if I had one inside. I do have a real wreath on the door, though. It doesn't bother me for that few minutes.

For 29 years we had real tree. Most years we went to a tree farm to get a tree.Oh what fun that was and a lot of good memories, too! But three years ago,a new step-grandson was allergic to real pine trees. So alas, no more real trees. But our GRANDSON(step-grandson )is worth it.

I have a fake tree, I had it for 20 years and I loved it. Last year I bought a new one after Christmas it is 7 ft and pre-lit. I hope I like it as much as I did my old one. :)

Had fake for around 21 years and last year, after listening to years and years of DD (who was then 19) lamenting the fact that I robbed her and her brother of the joy of a "real" tree - I sucked up and let her get a real tree.

Now - DS and I have severe allergies to pine - but somehow we muddled through the season. Have to laugh, though. DD was a freshman in college last year and wasn't home all that much anyways...... But she was happy, DH was happy, DS didn't care......

Target has an incredible spray that you can spritz on your fake tree. It smells JUST like a real tree. :)

Real Real REAL!
We actually have a fake one in the basement that came with my stepfather. My mom and I said from the minute he moved in that the tree could come-if it stayed in the box. Our trees usually last 3 weeks to a month at least, and they smell so good. The incense doesn't quite cut it for that, and my grampa and I are allergic to scented candles. Actually, at the rate I'm going, I'm probably allergic to the real tree too, but the candles are worse for me. And fake trees never look completely real.

we tried this and every other method, the problem is that between the heater and the fireplace the air just ends up too dry (even tried putting a cool mist humidifier next to it one year).

Ahhhhh....gotcha! :)

8 foot tall artificial. My parents, especially my father, got sick of looking for a tree every year. When we did have a real tree, my parents have a cathedral style living room, so my father would sometimes get trees 14 feet tall! We'd put the tree up the day after thanksgiving, and we'd be still decorating it until Christmas. Now it's much more manageable.

FAKE! I'm severely allergic to real, they are messy, a fire hazard, doesn't last long, and never look perfect =) I love my pre-lit and I can leave it up however long I want and takes minutes to put up.

And for that pine scent, I just burn a pine candle ;)

Fake. I enjoy being able to fully use my respiratory system during the holidays. Plus, I can keep the tree up from Black Friday to Epiphany.
