Real bats flying inside wilderness lodge lobby

THIS. If there are unwanted critters in your lobby, which can happen, ask to be moved if you are unhappy at the first sight of this. I don't really get the inconvenience, Disney will move your stuff.

My mother is TERRIFIED of snakes, let me assure you, if we found one in our hallway (or lobby) she would be asking immediately to move.

If you don't take steps to "fix" your vacation on your own, why should WDW refund any or all of your vacation?

And I didn't realize there were that many birds at CR! I HATE birds!

Yep, when we went to Chef Mickey's last month, there were alot of birds flying around.

Verified by whom? Strangers on a message board who claim to have seen the bats? Until I see pics of the bats in WL Lobby, I choose not believe the OP. It's really quite a simple act to pull out your camera or even a phone to snap a pic, especially if the bats were flying around as the OP suggested. Even with claims of dirty hotel rooms here I don't believe it until I see evidence to suggest the claims.

I'd be willing to guarantee there are bats in Disney, but in this case I don't believe it.

Oh wow, now I am even more shocked! Someone else (j-jhall) came on to say they had just returend from a 9 night stay at the WL and saw the bats (although they thought they were sparrows). This stranger on a MB has been a Dis member since 2008, but I guess he could be a liar, too. Another poster, MelissathePooh has a friend who is a CM at the WL and confirmed (verified, proved, determined, whatever word I should use) that they were having an issue with small bats. Melissa has been a Dis member since 2000, but I suppose she could be lying as well. Sheesh.

Honestly, I don't know why you would even join a site such as the Disboards. If you need photographic evidence of everything anyone reports, how could these boards be of any use to you? I'm not saying I believe everything I read, but I don't start out disbelieving just because we are all "strangers on a message board".

I believe the op when he says there are bats inside the WL lobby. I don't really have a reason not to. What would be the point of starting a thread about it if he didnt see them. And, no I don't think he's a troll.

I haven't read the whole thread. I'm sorry your trip was ruined by bats, OP.

I didn't see any when we stayed in June 2008 or when I was there in Dec. 2009 but that doesn't mean they aren't there now.

Bats don't bug me though. When I was 13, my sister and I had to stay with some relatives for a month and babysit their monster children. We got the fun of sleeping in the attic with the bats. Yup, at night bats would be flying around. Guess we were lucky we never got bit since we've never had any problems.

Then when we moved to a farm with the rest of the family bats were everywhere outside. Luckily they never got in the house.
As an adult, one of my sisters had some get in her house and she hired a critter catcher to catch them and then they sealed up the hole they used to get in.

My son and I will be staying at WL in 2 weeks. As I wander around the resort, I'll keep an eye open for bats inside.

You should dash off an email to guest relations and let them know about the bats. Maybe they'll be able to get someone in to trap them and move them somewhere else.

My point about club level wasn't that I had paid or didn't pay for it. It's that people pay too much $$ to stay at WL (or any resort) to not be upset when something like this happens. Honestly, it's not the end of the world but it is upsetting.

By the way I didn't request an upgrade, it wasn't until the morning we even realized what club level is or that we had it. That's when I looked up how much club level costs out of curiosity and realized I'd be even more upset if I wanted to enjoy the club with bats flying around the area if I had paid full price.

We are going to enjoy the rest of our stay (tonight is the last night) I will attempt to photograph them and post pictures on my return.

I will tell you that our reservations for my planned valentines day dinner at artist point will be cancelled if I see bats again tonight.

If someone says their room was dirty, what evidence do you need to confirm that a room was actually dirty? A photo? Or some other kind of evidence?

Well, I talked to a CM that works there who confirmed it. Not sure if that holds any message board credibility. I mean, I've been around on the DIS for almost 11 years not exactly a stranger here, but I don't know you personally of course. :rolleyes

I think this is exactly one of the things that has bugged me the most about the DIS lately. People just assume that because their experience was one way that someone else couldn't have had a different one. Because I had a certain experience and it was a positive one - anyone else who experienced it differently was just expecting too much or unreasonable or as Snape would suggest - just plain lying. Ugh.

I totally believe you OP. We just stayed at WL in November and luckily we had a nice say and didn't encounter any bats in the lobby. But I would be pretty aggravated to have to be in the lobby with them flying around! It's just gross honestly and my kids would freak! This shouldn't happen at any resort and is unacceptable . I would have changed resorts most likely even with only a couple days left. Sorry this has ruined your vacation.

Well then your lucky if you have always had a clean room. We have had a couple nasty rooms in Disney and one of them was at one of our favorite deluxe resorts

Yet another reason now that I won't stay at the WL--I hate bats and won't even go see them at the zoo. If you are really unhappy, I would see if they could move you to another resort.

To the op, in all the times I've been to the WL, I have never experienced bats; however, that's not to say they are not there now. I can understand your concerns about seeing several bats, but if your phoebia (not trying to insult you) paralizes you to the point you can't leave your room and you have not accepted WDW offering to relocate you to another deluxe resort you have nothing to complain about. Moving you is a realistic solution, giving you free nights or financial compensation is not.

I don't, however, believe Disney Corp. would put their guests at risk of potentially contracting rabies. They may do a lot of things wrong but ensuring their guests safety is not one of them.

Actually I don't consider myself lucky, with 30,000 rooms on site and the very few rooms (Reported but not proved as dirty,and as I dont consider a room with dust behind the head board as dirty) reported as dirty..It would be you that is unlucky in rooms, very unlucky..........odds are againist you madam.

So do you not believe the stories of guests being injured/killed on attractions or in transportation accidents? I mean, if Disney always ensures the safety of their guests, then those tragic accidents couldn't have possibly happened. They were awful at Chef Mickeys - saw them swoop down on a couple of tables when people got up to go to the buffet line. We've watched the problem for a while and this last time was the most we've seen. We did say something to the restaurant mgr and got a "what can we do response" the monorail opening is wide open all the time. Okay - not acceptable.

Also, bats wouldn't bother me as much as the big rat and the snake that both crossed my path at Pop on two separate occasions. I also was not a fan of the two small gators near Splash Mountain during my 2002 trip. Needless to say, I will never make the trip to Tom Sawyer Island again.

In FL, EVERY body of water has a gator in it. Or should be treated as such. That's what I always heard when I lived there. We saw one in the canal area by the parking lot last visit. DP (who was a zoology major) was thrilled by it

Thanks, must have missed that. Sense this thread is the first mention of this, have the bats only recently gotten in the lobby.

I can sympathize with everyone that this makes uncomfortable. But realistically if you go to a resort in Florida that has automatic doors and many, many people go in and out all day, critters are going to get in.

WDW has gators, snakes, bats, birds, rats, spiders, big roaches, and Disney will try as hard as they can to control it, but honestly there is only so much they can do. People leave their balcony doors open. They prop open the doors leading to pools and the boats. Naturally things are going to get it in.

This is one reason we prefer OKW and SSR, I am not a fan of the big lobbies.

OP, I am so sorry this has happened to you and I am sorry that you even took the time to report it on these boards. You have been unfairly attacked which seems to be the norm here lately on the Dis. If bats are still flying around the lobby during our visit we will asked to be moved immediately. To be vaccinated for rabies is not as simple as one injection. It is series of painful multiple injections. I do understand the difficulty that WDW faces trying to remove the bats. It is however in their best interest. While rare, people still do die from rabies. I am an ER nurse, 13 years and besides having to administer the vaccines I have seen a young child who contracted this disease from a bat after hurricane Katrina. It is something I will not forget. I will take no chances in exposing my own children or my friend's children to this deadly disease and shame on Disney for not correcting this problem. Perhaps those posters, and they are numerous, who accused the OP of lying and called him names such as a troll should eat a slice of humble pie and say something nice such as "I am sorry" as it has been verified that his story was true. Not sure why some people feel the need to be so darn ugly on these boards.
