:teacher: hello,hello,hello!!!!
love the DVC, took the tour at SSR a couple of years ago but didnt have the funds at the time. now im ready, but im wishy washy and keep waffeling on what direction i should go. i need you wonderful people to make my mind up!
at first i wanted BCV or BWV b/c i love these resorts, the boardwalk and Epcot is our favorite park. (still lamenting Horizons) but when i realized that SSR and AKV contracts last 12-15 years longer it seemed to be a no brainer.....although SSR are AKV seem nice enough, i prefer BCV & BWV and i presumed i could just stay at my prefered resorts. but the more i read the more it seems the 7 month window is not enough to get BCV & BWV. my son is still in H.S. so our vacation times are fairly dictated by his schedule. but, one we become empty nesters, we would want to go to WDW during the Food and Wine Festival, Epcot flower and garden festival and the week before or after X-mas (wont catch me dead in WDW the week of X-mas):crowded: we would generally want a studio, view is not of massive importance and we have the freedom to plan 7 months out. what are the odds of us getting rooms at BWV or BCV during these times if these are not our home resort? 12-15 years difference on contract seems alot to give up to stay at BCV or BWV, but not being able to stay at my favorite resorts seems to be a lot to give up as well. i need a firm voice to tell me what to do! thank you for your guidance in advance!!!!!!!!

Hi,

I'm with the crowd that says "buy where you want to stay". We are owners at OKW and love it there. We have also stayed at the BWI several times as well as SS. (We are empty-nesters and usually travel on offpeak times and there have been times when we haven't been able to trade, if that helps any.) The 12 extra years does make a difference, however, if you love the Epcot area and don't want to chance not being able to trade, then I would go for it! Good luck with your decision. Our only regret is that we didn't buy sooner!!:)

Let us know what you decide.

35 years is still a long time. If I wanted to stay primarily at BCV or BWV, that's where I would purchase.

Now, I read that your son is in high school so I'm taking a guess at your age.
I'm just guessing that you may be headed toward the sunset in another 35 years... ;)

In addition, who knows how many resorts DVC will build in the next 35 years?
The competition for smaller resorts at the 7 month window could become intense.

I am a big proponent of "buy where you want to stay". However anywhere in WDW is going to be good.

we would want to go to WDW during the Food and Wine Festival, Epcot flower and garden festival and the week before or after X-mas (wont catch me dead in WDW the week of X-mas) we would generally want a studio, view is not of massive importance and we have the freedom to plan 7 months out. what are the odds of us getting rooms at BWV or BCV during these times if these are not our home resort?

We bought points at BWV and BCV exactly so we would have the home resort booking advantage.

First of all... we've been where you are. We've been going back and forth for a while now. We called them two weeks ago and purchased in AKV.

Our decision is based on that for our travel times, it's less points for us to stay at AKV, we love the AK Lodge and enjoy the area.

We tossed back and forth about buying a small (term) and going to BWV or BCV... but when it came down to it... we liked the AK more.

Buy where you want... You can also buy into a resort and buy a small contract for BWV or BCV.

thanks to all!!!!!
especially the link provided by salmoneous......
i used the above magic meatball link to have the great infallible wisdom imparted upon me (since im pathetic and cant make up my own mind) and these are the responses given by the all mighty magic meatball.
Q: should i purchase AKV, BCV or BWV?
A: ask again later
Q: should i purchase BCV?
A: yes.
hmmmmm. interesting. but i needed to be sure.......
Q: should i purchase AKV?
A: maybe.
Q: should i purchase BWV?
A: definately.
well there you have it. you cant get a more reassuring repsonse than definately! so i am going with the purchase of the BWV via resale
(unless vetoed by the one who must not be named, the one who has comandeered 90% of closet space, the one who has tastefully decorated our home, the one who is nice enough to allow me to buy the DVC)
so barring veto powers from of the executive branch of the family unit (which means AKV and i cant complain about that) BWV here i come!
i must be the first person on this board to use the magic eightball to make their decision.
p.s. if you havent noticed by now im a certified idiot and the papers to prove it.
p.s.s im off to do a voodoo ritual to assure no ROFR:eek:

its done! i was going to purchase via resale but when i spoke with my DVC rep they had BWV points available! it did cost me a little more, but for my piece of mind seemed worth it to go direct to Disney. having to wait thru the ROFR would have drove me nuts and then having to wait for another 6 weeks or so to close......i was suprised they had the points (175pts) available so easily. at first they never offered me the points, but when i called asking them to see if there were any openings avail for the BWV or BCV this upcoming Dec.(i figured this would be a good barometer to see ease of avail for future ref) and then after starting to go into my concerns of being able to get the BCV or BWV during the Food and wine fest. my rep just cut me off and said if you want the guarantee to be able to stay at the BW resorts for F&WF you need the BCV or BWV to be your home. then he asked how many points i wanted and the sale was done in minutes. it made me wonder if Disney judges their ROFR decisions on people like me? or if someone inquires on a sold out resort if Disney would be premptive and purchase via resale and not wait for an offer to exercize their ROFR? Disney does mark up the points substanially. i would have saved about $1200 if i went resale. (my decision probably seems foolish to some). it not the easiest thing to find a contract via resale that isnt stripped of points. thats why i think Disney may do this to make a quick buck. it actually would have been cheaper to buy SSR direct, not much cheaper but cheaper nonetheless. it was a hard decision giving up 12 years of membership (15 if AKV) but i dont think i would have been as happy if i couldnt stay at my favorite resorts when i wanted to.

My advice is to buy where you want to stay. I think that 'rule of thumb' will become more important in the future, especially for smaller resorts.

Congratulations and Welcome Home, BWV neighbor!!!! There's lots to be said for definite decision making, and I don't think you were foolish even one tiny bit!! We tried to buy VWL resale to get into DVC, and we were ROFR'd, and so then we went direct to Disney as well.
