Ready to pull my hair out

When you mention large groups, someone always suggests renting DVC points...but as someone that often travels with other couples or family groups (and who is usually the one who does the planning!) I can tell you that for a variety of excellent reasons (health, family issues, job, etc) the reality is that people sometimes need to cancel. The larger the group, the better the odds someone will have to drop out.

Renting DVC points is a risk as you could lose money if people cancel out and you are either left with a larger unit than you really need or extra units. For a group You need flexibility--my recommendation would be to do individual resort rooms for each couple or famly, paid for separately (room only reservation). This way if someone needs to cancel, no problem.

Gooc luck!
Seriously took the thoughts right out of my head here.

...Once you know how many beds you'll need, you can determine the best DVC room configuration. A studio typically has two queen beds and some resorts offer a chair that folds out into a twin bed, allowing you to sleep 4-5 people. A one-bedroom has a king bed in the master bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Technically these only sleep 4-5 as well. A 2-bedroom is basically a 1-bedroom combined with a studio, allowing you to sleep 8-10 people. ...

Your information is a bit incorrect. None of the studios have a twin sized sleeper chair and only three DVC resorts have one in the one bedroom villa (OKW, BLT and AKV-non-Value villas). Studios are mostly one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa except for OKW which has two queen beds.

No two bedroom willl allow ten people. Nine at the most (unless one is under the age of three - then you can have ten but only the two bedrooms that officially sleep nine with the twin sized sleeper chair). Studios sleep four, one bedrooms sleep four or five, two bedrooms sleep eight or nine depending on the resort.

Finally, depending on when the OP is planning on going, renting a single DVC reservation might not be possible, let alone multiple villas. Especially if they are going between the end of Sept and mid-January.

We are looking at going the week after Thanksgiving. It's our absolute favorite time to go. We are extended family. 4 couples, 2 kiddos, and 3 singles. The singles are me, my mom and my 21 year old. I'm leaning more toward an all stars. Really loved the photos of AoA but they only have suites available in our time frame, and we need at least one single room. At this point, I am having to agree with my mom. We need SPACE. You know, mostly for the one sister who can't seem to get along with anyone for more than a couple of days. Thank you so much for the DVC suggestion. It's still Greek to me, but as I said, staying together might result in the necessity for bail money, and I'm not wanting to budget for that :rolleyes1 I will definitely look into grand gatherings. Also, I found out my mom has a pin! Which she can't find....fingers crossed though. :hyper: She had no idea it was anything more than a brochure until she was describing it to me.

As for parks and dining....I will book whatever they like, but we are definitely breaking off into smaller groups. Maybe regroup for Wishes or Illuminations, but as much as I love them and love spending time with them, we all need to do our own thing for sure.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

Well dang! Thanks for setting me straight! :-)
