Ready to jump on the tee-shirt wagon! Can I use my Cricut?

I want to make custom tee-shirts for an upcoming Disney trip and I'd like to use my Cricut to do it. Has anyone here used a Cricut for their tees? What kind of transfer paper works best? Do I have to reverse my design or something? I was thinking of just using white transfer paper and cutting out cricut letters and shapes to iron on to the shirts. Will that work? Would it be better if I did some kind of printed design on the transfers, too? Any suggestions/pictures of previous projects would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have a Cricut, too, but have only had it a few weeks, so I don't have any experience with this. Are you talking about cutting out the transfer paper and then ironing onto your t-shirt? I am interested to see what you come up with, too. Hope you will post back.

That's what I was thinking. Like maybe cutting out letters or Mickey heads or something and then ironing them on. I may just have to experiment.

On one of the threads here somewhere I saw a shirt where she had placed small mickey heads around a large one and then tye dyed it. It was adorable but I thought I would do more than just mickey. If I could drag myself away from this computer I might get my shirt done.

thats so awesome, i wish i can bring myself to spend 150.00 on the machine, i really wouldnt know what i would use it for, i am not an avid scrapper, kwim..

Do they still make fusable web? I haven't used it for years, so I don't know if it's still available. For those who don't know, it's a material that you put between two pieces of fabric and then iron it, causing the material to melt and fuse the two items together.

I would think you could take your cricut to cut shapes and use the fusable web to put the shapes on your shirt. I think this would work better than an iron on because the fabric would be more substantial than the transfer. They even make printable fabric that can be ironed onto other fabric.

I've got a Cricut too and love it!! Hadn't gotten around to thinking about using it on a t-shirt yet! Let us know what you come up with!

It's amazing though-you don't have to just use it for scrapbooking. My boys love the little pictures that I make for them and they put them in their artwork and whatever else. DS1 carries around the bird and shows it to everyone!

And for those of you not familiar with the "Cricut". It is pronounced, Crickett!!! I had only seen it mentioned on the Scrapbooking Board, and thought it was called a "Crycut", so when my friend offered to let me play with her Crickett, I had no clue as to what she was talking about. I borrowed hers, took it home, never took it out of the box and went out and bought my own. And by the way I don't scrapbook, either. It is a blast to use.

I have had it about a month, and have decorated gift bags, made some cards and have made about 150 Fish Extender gifts for our cruise next month. So if the machine looks interesting to you, don't hold back because you don't scrapbook. My next project is to cut out vinyl and to decorate a foam visor, but I have yet to come up with a design.

Oh My, I have one of these in my garage. It belonged to my BFFs Mom. She couldn't throw it out, so I am keeping it. FOr what, I don't know.

That's so funny. I just told her daughter that I would keep it till Christmas and then the trashman could have it. LOL

I have a cricut as well. I had originally bought it for my DS-8 state report project. He had to do a 25 page book of facts and the pages had to be the shape of the state. He had to do display board and used it for that. I used the 50 state cart. Best money spent. I see that you used it to make your FE gifts. I'm in the process of making them for 2 upcoming cruises and always looking for ideas. So, if you don't mind sharing, what did you make with it?

They sell vinyl sheets for the cricut. I was wondering if you could use the cricut to cut the vinyl and then use the vinyl on the tshirts--do you iron on vinyl?? Also I was wondering--are you guys using the ink for teh cricut and then cutting out the designs? How are you getting color on the transfers for the different characters.

To the mom that has one in her garage--you should try selling it on Craig's list instead of throwing it out!! YOu will probably be pleasantly surprised!!

i used my cricut to cut out some character cut out of contact and placed them on a t-shirt so now I have to paint the shirt and see how it does. I have seen on one of the thread a lady had done a big mickey head in the middle and then small mickey heads around the big one. I didn't do just mickey head. i will post when i finish it.
