Hey, neat thread.
My husband has chatted(don't know if I should say that)and he says, they always say, "who is McDISer"
I am usually the one on the DIS, I am more of a reader (lurker) than anything. I found (Wobin's) Trip Report a few years ago and when I came back a few months ago for my husband to read I noticed I couldn't find it after a zillion pages. Then I saw someone posted a link. That is how we got over there. (he is so darn lazy, he uses my name and won't register his own).

Like I said, I am a ferocious reader-love this thead. My family always accuses me of finding just about anything to read.

My latest read was last nite-our daughter had a soccer game-the home team had a team roster booklet out and every girl wrote a summary about their school year, where they are going when the graduate-you get the picture-took 20 minutes off the clock before I looked up again to watch the game.

Is it okay, to join this bookclub? Otherwise I won't post again, just go back to lurking or I call it reading.

Rhonda Jen, that's a lot of books! I would love to read any of your recommendations.
I am a book nut as well. You should see my house. I don't have kids and yet almost all of my books are intermediate readers and childrens books. I love them. But I have a secret as to how to acquire books.....

For me Pet Sematary by Steven King it was actually bringing tears to my eyes as I was reading.

We swap books like we are a used book store!

I send up a great vote for Evanovich's Plum series. Start with One for the Dough.....you can find them in paperback now. Which is a fav of mine as I can stuff it in the diaper bag and not worry about defacing an authors hardback. something sacred in hardback books IMHO! Anywhoo.....this series is great for lighthearted summer reading.

Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, Tami Hoag, Nicholas Sparks, Andrea Kane, Susan Wiggs, Vicki Lewis Thompson's "nerd" series, Margaret Maron,Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Debbie Macomber, Patricia Cornwell ( read her older stuff, the newer titles are getting a bit repetitive), Kathy Reichs, Jan Karon's Mitford series and Janette Oak(christian reads), Jane Kirkpatrick's Kinship and Courage series. Just a few I have read in the last 6mos to year. I am a mother of four rugrats aged 10, 8, 2 and 11weeks and I make the time for myself to read, eat chocolate and bubble baths like some make the time to exercise! HA!

For me it was hands down: Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy.
The horrors within. I shudder even thinking about it.

Acutally, it wasn't that bad...AFTER having my first lil baby.

In fact, I re-read it and it was hilarious.

Funny you should say that... I was so sick during my (only) pregnancy... and just *looking* at What to Expect While You're Expecting could make me run for the bathroom. So I didn't read it. Not at all. Mark did, though. He told me things he thought I needed to know. Some of them made me run for the bathroom, too. I think we sold that book on eBay. **SHUDDER**!!! What a nightmare!!!

I have many many suggestions because I'm a multitask reader, I've always got at least two books on the go at the same time.

I will say I just completed M.Gracie's TR and Mel's so that was my latest read.....no wait, the newspaper this morning. Daily read for me. Sorry, I'm an old fashioned gal - no news from the internet, can't get those black smudges all over my hands from the keyboard. Just something else.

GADG - Excellent list - I'll be checking out some of those.

Yes, 1984 was a good read. Read it in 1983 to prepare Isn't it funny that a book written so long ago still has a strong appeal today.

2I&B - Mine was What to Expect When Expecting. I expected a lot, didn't expect some, so yes, it was a bit scary.

Ed - My scariest was "A Handmaids Tale" by Margaret Atwood. DO NOT watch the movie they made from this book. It's really bad. The book is EXCELLENT! Couldn't put it down.

My Mags are: Entertainment Weekly - so I can keep up. My friend from GA gave me a subscription to Southern Living when we moved back north - also to keep up
