I romantic in me loves all of Nicholas Sparks books (The Notebook, Message in a bottle etc...)

I also like "Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya sisterhood" and "lil Altars everywhere"

I think Brave New World and 1984 are awesome as well.

I haven't seen many recent movies, however I would suggest Crash and after reading Brave new World or 1984, watch the matrx really closely and I am sure you will be suprised. My Philosophy professor in college used The Matrx to sort of get everyone into it and then eased us into the classics by Adolux Huxley and George Orwell :thumbsup2

Well blow me down! All excellent and appropriate titles!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 back at ya! ;)

Great idea for a thread. One non-fiction book I read recently, which was great, was The Tipping Point (How Small Things Can Make a Difference), by Malcom Gladwell. Whether you agree with his thesis or not, the stories he tells are fascinating, especially the section on all the research and thought that went into producing children's shows such as Sesame Street and Blues Clues (who knew?). Another absolutely wonderful non-fiction book is Liar's Poker: Rising Through the Wreckage on Wall Street, by Michael Lewis. Really gets into the "greed is good" mentality that prevailed on the Street during the late 80s. And absolutely hysterical as well -- I laughed so hard tears would come to my eyes.

In the fiction category, I recall reading The Dark is Rising series, by Susan Cooper. About a 6 or 7 book series that gets into a lot of English and Welsh mythology. Appropriate for pre-teens and teens, and contains a neat twist on the Arthurian legend. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time for pure escapist fiction -- for that I rely on the newspaper. :teeth:

Reading ... it does a mind good. (apologies to the dairy industry).

You know I love Dean Koontz novels as well and of course there is always Dan Brown's conspiracy novels. I did see The Davinci Code, but I honestly didn't like it so much after reading the book and loving it :sad2:

I really like this, because it offers a justification for being here so much.

I am currently reading a novel entitled Good Harbor by Anita Diamant. While I was not a fan of the Red Tent, I find myself relating to this particular selection on a number of levels.

It is a contemporary novel that explores the burden of secrets, the weight of grief and the healing power of female friendship. Neither realizes that their chance meeting will result in a life-altering friendship. A mutual appreciation of books initially brings the women together and they rapidly fall into friendship, taking long walks along Good Harbor beach and talking about their lives. Piece by piece, they begin to share their personal histories and acknowledge how much they can learn from each other. But long-hidden secrets are often difficult to reveal and only after some painful soul-searching do they each come to terms with the fact that sharing those startling secrets can help them confront their emotional scars. Good Harbor is a rich and moving novel about the tragedy of loss, the insidious nature of family secrets and, ultimately, the redemptive power of friendship.

Thanks for noticin me, Sher!!

Morning everyone.

Lots and lots of good titles here. Ed, ITA about Cornwell. Patterson's Cross series has headed that way, a bit, too. And Lou, I think it was you who mentioned Lawrence Block? Like him too. Goobergal, Dean Koontz is creepy dee to the max. But I am a HUGE Ya-Ya fan (both books).

After I went to bed last night, a whole slew of others popped into my head. But now I forget them. I will wake up a bit and post more later.

Good morning everyone
Thank you for helping me make another list of books to look for at the library

This doesn't have to be a recent read does it?

I loved The First Wives Club, the book. I read it many years ago as a beach read. Is much more in depth then the movie.

The 4 main characters are connected by their strings of pearls, that keep them connected after life takes them along different paths. Heavy really.

Good Morning all you people who love to see, hear and tell things! Wow! Who knew there were so many of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am off to a busy day, but will stop by at every opportunity to follow this road! I hope people stop by often with many offerings of the humorous kind!

right now I am reading the new Anne Tyler book "Digging to America" I am about 1/2 way through it and its been good.

...Another one where the movie was stinky, even though the book was good! Did you know she (the author - Olivia Goldsmith, I think) died a couple of years ago from a PLASTIC SURGERY mishap? (No, PMM, that was not directed toward you. But please be careful.)

More....Dennis Lehane, his Patrick/Angie series. Didn't love Mystic River, and Shutter Island was the creepiest (dee) book I've ever read ((((shudder)))). They're making a movie of Gone Baby Gone, which was one of the last of the series. My least fav, actually. Really depressing. But he's a great writer, no question.

Also love Jennifer Weiner, particularly Good in Bed, but they're all good.

Sorry, Horsey, but I can't think of anything funny to say. Must be the lack of sleep. Oh, and thanks for the pic PP. It's official. I want to live in your house. How was the Legend's Ball show, BTW? I currently have Oprah on ignore, so I couldn't watch it.

Since this is a read, see, and listen based thread, I thought I would post my question here, too. It's also on the Community Board, but you people are soooo smart. Thanks :grouphug: :grouphug:

Hi Dis-experts, I purchased the Disney Wishes soundtrack at WDW in March. I would like to buy another copy but cannot find it online. Can anyone help me? I am not talking about the pop singers wishes cd that is readily available in stores.

I guess I could call that # that lets you buy themepark-sold merchandise, but I'd love to find it faster.

Thanks!
Jami
