Dadgummit. I hate being the newbie and spreading controversy from the get-go. . .buuuuuttttt, screw tops are actually catching on at some very good wineries. For example, Wishing Tree Shiraz (is NOT swill, you-know-who-you-are!) is a perennially high-rated Wine Spectator selection from Down Under and they use screw tops. Same goes for wineries all over, from CA to OR to WA to Germany to Australia & New Zealand. That being said, as a general rule, it can still be said that screw tops are not considered vogue. Plus, there's the whole sensuality and romance notion involved in uncorking a wine; further, there is some controversy whether screw tops will allow proper oxidation and cellaring for age-worthy wines. For me, tink, I still--and likely always will--prefer corks over screw tops. . .I humbly beseech you not to whip me, insolent cur that I am. . .

Welcome back to all the traveling Maelstromers and happy trails to those who are going on vacation.

Jami, I looked for you when I went to pick up Emily over the fourth of july weekend, but there wasn't a cute hairdo to be found.

Emily and I had our dinner on the beach tonight. I packed a picnic (the easiest dinner to prepare--some sandwiches and chips and drinks) and some good books, two beach chairs and we had the best dinner. We decided that we will be doing this 2 or 3 times a week for the rest of the summer. The two of us sat on the beach for four hours tonight. enjoying the breeze, reading, eating some sammies and chatting with my baby. What a great night! I love living near the beach!

I am sure I will get tired of the sandwiches soon, but time with my girl is worth it.

We tried to get tickets to see Pirates this weekend, but the theaters were sold out so we had to settle for Superman. Not a bad movie, but now we have to go to the movies again this weekend. Oh well.

Thanks Erin, I really appreciate you coming out from hiding. Putting a few dishes in the diswasher is not such a great ordeal. Although I am contemplating something, not sure what yet, like seeing Hoop first time in 34 years? Or wishes? Or Illuminations????
