Reading online vs. Reading a book

In the summer, I like to take a book to the pool while my kids play. I wouldn't take an E-book reader to the pool (risk of getting it wet), also, I'm not sure about this, but I would think that it would difficult to see it in the sun.
You can read your Kindle in the sun. And I am planning on taking mine to the beach. I don't have an Ipad, but I think that might be harder to read in the sun since it is backlit and my have glare. Anyone have one and tried it?

I prefer to read a hard copy of things. I have some teachers that post a lot of articles online, and I always print them out. I have contemplated a Kindle but just don't know if I can do it. Dh is a librarian, and I am an English major...what do you expect?!? I think reading texts online is good, though. It saves money, is more convenient (easy access and portable), and probably saves trees. When my kids are my age, I am sure they will have no problem reading online. It will be how they will have grown up.

But, I read the "paper" on-line.

lol - I was an English major, too - and I have my MLS and worked as a professional librarian for many years. And I LOVE my Kindle and would never be without it.

You can read a Kindle easily in the bright sunlight - the technology is completey different than that used in a backlit device.

For current events (as in latest breaking news)--I prefer on-line. The newspaper is already dated by the time I can get to it. I.e. today's paper above the fold major story was the shuttle landing and the paths of the 2 attempts (First time since columbia for the shuttle to come over the US.)

But the landing was scrubbed for today by 9am....I saw the paper after that.

For other things, I prefer print. I.e. a kindle does not interest me and I will print things off of the web and then read the printout. Not sure if it is that I like something tangible or if it is simply easier for me to process what I need to get out of it.
