Reading challenge 2021

Just finished #31 - Forever Young, by Hayley Mills

I got the recommendation from here, so I'm sure there is already a description above. But I will say I enjoyed it, and it inspired me to check Disney+ and watch one of her movies that I hadn't seen yet.

Thats funny, after I read it I went and rewatched The Parent Trap. I hadn’t seen it in years and it was nice watching it now knowing some of the backstory.

That's one of my favorites as well (along with Pollyanna, of course!)

Did you ever see The Parent Trap II? It was a TV movie in the 80s, and Hayley played twins again as an adult. I only realized after watching The Moon Spinners recently that the name of one of the child characters (Nikki Ferris) was a nod to that other movie.

Loved those movies and That Darn Cat!

No, I didn’t see that one. But that brings out one thing about the book, she didn’t go into anything about her later life.

#27 - The Huntress by Kate Quinn. I am now officially hooked on her books. I started with the Rose Code which I loved. While reading reviews of the Rose Code many said the Huntress was even better. I think I liked the Rose Code a bit better but I love the Huntress as well. Such a good story about unlikely group of Nazi Hunters - a Russian women pilot, a British Gentleman and a young man from the Queens join together with a young women from Boston. It was such a great listen that I was down to the last chapters and I had to hear the end of it so I was stealing minutes here and there to finish it up. I am now listening to the Alice Code just started it this morning.

64. Ellie Jordan Ghost Trapper by JL Bryan mindless ghost story, October fun

65. Cold Shadows JL Bryan more spooky thrills for October. These are a hoot!

Another in the Cape May series. Gave it 3/5, it‘s very predictable! Cape May Beach Days by Claudia Vance.

#49/60 A Children's Bible by Lydia Millet
"an indelible novel of teenage alienation and adult complacency in an unraveling world"
Sorry, I didn't care for this one at all. Found it tedious & was glad to finish. Probably only reason I finished was because I had started & put down 2 other books before starting this one so maybe it was just me, lol.

23/30 - Savage Run by C. J. Box

Description:
"When a massive explosion occurs deep within the forests of Twelve Sleep County and a colorful environmental activist appears to have perished in the blast, Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett is called to the scene to help investigate. The case is wrapped up quickly, explained as an environmental publicity stunt gone wrong, but Joe isn't convinced. He soon discovers clues that suggest a deadly conspiracy–one that will test his courage, his survival skills, and his determination to “do the right thing” despite all costs."

This is the 2nd novel in the Joe Pickett series. I read the 1st novel a couple of years ago and liked it. I really liked this one too!

A friend had recommended “Ask Again, Yes“ by Mary Beth Keane, but I only thought it was average, 3/5.

36/35 Nomadland by Jessica Bruder

Nonfiction about a community of older Americans who live in RV’s and automobiles, chasing seasonal work just to survive.

I ended up liking this book more than I thought I would. I’ve been having some insomnia so I downloaded it thinking it would be something kind of dry to lull me back to sleep. But I ended up being fascinated how these people get by, how they came to be in their various situations, and just how disgusting a company Amazon is.

#50/60 Her Three Lives by Cate Holahan
Her public life
Jade Thompson has it all. She’s an up-and-coming social media influencer, and she has a beautiful new home and a successful architect for a fiancé. But there’s trouble behind the scenes. To Greg’s children, his divorce from their mother and his new life can only mean a big mid-life crisis. To Jade, his suburban Connecticut upbringing isn’t an easy match with her Caribbean roots.
Her private life A savage home invasion leaves Greg house-bound with a traumatic brain injury and glued to the live feeds from his ubiquitous security cameras. As the police investigate the crime and Greg’s frustration and rage grows, Jade begins to wonder what he may know about their attackers. And whether they are coming back.
Her secret life As Greg watches Jade’s comings and goings, he becomes convinced that her behavior is suspicious and that she’s hiding a big secret. The more he sees, the more he wonders whether the break-in was really a random burglary. And whether he’s worth more to Jade if he were dead than alive.

Was just ok to me.
