Read well before flaming!

I agree. I think they should split the cost three ways. Good Luck

When a family at my job when to WDW in January, they had 5 in an All Star room. They called up CRO to make their reservations and they said they had 3 kids, youngest had turned 4 during their trip. They listed all of them and their ages and didn't mention that only 4 can fit. When I mentioned this to them before they left they said they were unaware of this problem. They called up the next day and asked what the policy was and they said that when it's a very small child they often make exceptions. They asked if they would be allowed to stay in just one room at check-in and the CM said it was fine. They got there and checked-in without a problem. They got a resort id for all members of the room (the had PHPs so they didn't need the passes on the keys) and were never told anything about having 5 people. This I'm sure is not the standard and that you will have varying results, but it is allowed at least some of the time.

Her best bet is to stay offsite. Here is some good hotels to stay offsite at Hoilday Inn Family Suites, Country Inn and Suites and Amerisuites Calsyo Cay. I know for sure you should be able to get Country Inn and Suites and Amerisuites for under 100.00 dollars a night and the suites allow 6 people and have free breakfest.

I got a backup revestions there for the July 4th weekend just case I can't get All-Stars at the last minute.

Check out the Orlando and Attactions board they have plenty offsite choice for a family of 5 and cheap eats.

Hope that helps

I'm surprised that the hotels next to downtown Disney wasn't mentioned(at least it's not offsite). I've never stayed so i don't know how many are allowed in each room but the rates are reasonable even for suites. I'd check out mousesavers to see which ones she recomends. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help. I shared all this information with my friend today and she has made the decission not to do anything that is not allowed. She is going to talk with the Cm to see if they will make an exception if not she is going to look at POR.

I am not trying to dispute whether or not it is "right" for Disney to have a limit of 4 people per room in the value resorts, but I have a question because I am trying to figure out why the Dolphin allows 5. Wouldn't they fall under the same fire regulations as the Disney value resorts? As far as I know, both resorts only have 2 beds in each standard room...

Is it based on square footage, or on sleeping arrangements?

BettyC

The Dolphin compares more to a Deluxe than a Disney Value resort, inside corrridors, pool slide, sit down restaurants etc.

The maximun number of guests allowed per room is due to fire regulations and based on square ft. The Dolphin rooms are considerably larger than the Value resorts. There is plenty of room for a roll away at the Dolphin. In fact the Dolphin rooms are much bigger than the AKL rooms which had two queens and a daybed.

Please tell your friend she can get a room at the Grovesnor for LESS than the AS.

I found this information on expedia.com

Located just across the street from the Marketplace in Downtown Disney®, this official hotel offers complimentary scheduled roundtrip transportation to all four Disney theme and water parks, and Pleasure Island (Don't flame me for suggesting this, but if she has PHP isn't she allowed to use the dis transportation from DTD?)

I'm not sure when they are going but I priced it for 5/24 thru 5/31 and came up with the average per night of $71. ( each night ranged from $65 to $78)

The Grosvenor Resort features 626 guestrooms with one king or two twin beds and can accommodate five guests. Courtyard accommodations are located in the east and west low rise wings and offer an exterior entrances.
Each room has a coffee maker and Refrigerator. (THis would save her even more money)

There was a photh on the site of a room that has a king bed and then bunk beds in a privacy corner. Very cute room.

I like AS and would/am staying there again, but for your friend this is a great deal.
1) Less money
2) more room
3) Coofee makr & Refrig. will save $$
4) No guilt, legal worry:)

That is a good idea. :)

It looks like you don't need any more advice, but I want to say how much I LOVE the idea of the girls sharing an adjoining room! If I were in a position to do so, I'd chip in for that to help out a friend. Plus, it would be like a slumber party for the girls. :) What a great idea.

Just my suggestion: Purchase an annual pass voucher for one of the children as their ticket, and that entitles you to the annual pass rate for a port orleans-trundle bed room for probably less money than, or about the same as the all-stars rack rate that they have now. Then everything will be legal and everybody's happy.

Actually a child can't. YOu must be 18 to book a room. And AP rates are subject to availability. So a 9 yo can't book a room for their parents and their parents can't use their child's AP to get the AP rate. It must be an adult AP and an adult must book the room. We have always been asked for our ID when we checked in, so you can't just say you are your child either.

There are also discounts available to the general public and if you don't have a current code or know if there is a special and you are nice to the CM at CRO they will sometimes bend over backwards to get you the best rate. This happened recently to me when I booked a room for our family of five. There weren't any current discounts for POR for either codes or AP and the CM looked at several other options to try to get us somewhere that we could stay all 5 in one room for less than we were paying.

:earsgirl:

Actually, this topic was debated on another thread and though people were in disagreement, many people said they have used a child's AP to book a room and that it worked (they showed the child's AP at check-in, etc.). I too was told it would work by CRO twice, but will not know for sure till the fall. From what other's said, however, you can do this.

Don't feel guilty trying to help them if you are close enough. Only you know just how close you are to these friends/co-workers and whether you should butt out or not. It may be your concern.....

I would say try for POR with that trundle on a discount code. If not, do any of the group qualify for Swan/dolphin nurse, teacher, etc rates?

Not the case. Yes you have to be 18 to book a room, but you can use any AP for discount as long as the holder is in that room. Done it many times. Why should a childs AP be worth less then an adult. Or better still why should an adult ap held by an 17 year old be less valuable then one held by an 18 year old.

How is this helpful? OP is just trying to help. Isn't that the point of these boards and every post on them?

I think the AP discount or one of the other discounts codes given out would give her a great rate at PO or even a deluxe and still not end up paying as much as rack rates. I do like the AS resorts but if I had a good discount I'd take a mod or a deluxe. AKL has some good discounts I have seen and the kids would love the animals.

I'm going to add my limited knowledge on a few topics discussed in this thread. First, in responce to 5 in the "AS" room, I would not press their luck, find another solution. Second, the 4 or 5 in a room limit. It is based on Fire Codes, it is based on square footage, it is based on sleeping capacity (which is based on square feet), also remember different Disney resorts are in different Floroda counties. Hence the different tax rate at different resorts. Different counties may have different occupancy rules. Also I stayed at BC in 1999 only three of us, I inquired about the use of a sleeping bag and sleeping on the floor (teenager did not want to bunk with an adult) (also the room we had had NO daybed). I was told no, I also inquired about a roll-a-way and was told no. The reason, the bedding in the room was already based (on square foot) on the Fire regualtions and could not be altered (fire regulation also prohibit sleepping on the floor). Yes I know it is done all the time, but I was told no sleeping on the floor and no roll-a-ways were available. Last, use of a child's AP for booking a room with discount. The official statement is that 1) the room be booked by the actual AP holder and 2) that the room be booked by an adult. Again I know many many rooms are booked by the parent of a child using the child's AP. This seems to be allowed as an exception. I don't think if two adults (not married) stayed in a room one to be the room holder on record (and get an AP discount) while the other had the AP. This is just the "official" information passed on to me, in practice anything can happen as not all CM's can recite policy.

We have friends going to WDW for the first time that have 3 children. Co-workers of this friend are going at the same time(4 families total, I think) and staying at the All Stars. They all booked the trip at the same time last summer with the same Travel Agent who suggested they "put" their youngest child(10) on another families' reservation(who had 1 child). Now, I am pretty sure he will not actually sleep in the other room, but it is their vacation. This makes more sense than sneaking the child in...at least the child would be a registered guest in a room. And don't anyone dare flame me...I never would have suggested it, but the TA did not bat an eye doing so.

Have her check discount codes, have her check mousesavers.com, have her check out the Swan/Dolphin nurse/teacher/government employee discount, have her check out the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd, have her check AAA discounts, have her call CRO and try and get a sympathetic CM. If it didn't work the first time, I'd keep calling CRO. Soemtimes you get a CM who's really good on the comuter and can find "manager's specials" etc.

I don't think it's smart to have an extra in a room meant for 4, for all the reasons noted above.

It is helpful in the sense of suggesting that she remove herself from a situation where she may end up the "bad guy" no matter what she says or does.

Jordan's Mom.......There are alot of other great suggestions here. So I hope you get a solution!! Good Luck.:D

Good grief! Never dreamed my advice would stir up so much controversy! I know if any member of your party, including any child, has an AP, that you can book an annual pass rate. But, if you don't want to purchase an AP for either an adult or child, there are often discounts that apply to everyone, and there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get one of the rooms that holds 5 for a similar price range to the rack rates for the all-stars. Just wait until a couple of months before you're going, and then check here and mousesavers.com for the codes to use. This needn't be as big a deal as this is turning out to be LOL.
