The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I read it simply based on how highly it was rated on Amazon, and was happy I did.
Although I don't "listen" to books, this is great for those who do - so I have heard.
Recently finished Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen. Fantastic read.
I also loved The Help. I just finished reading it and I was sad when it ended. My dsis told me the audio tape is fantastic too!
I second Water for Elephants. I finished it over the christmas break and LOVED it.
I'd also recommend:
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
These are three of my favorite books of all time, besides Harry Potter of course!

Also loved Water for Elephants and The Help.
So I was going to say I just finished The Help, but maybe you've already gotten that it's a great book
. I also enjoyed Water for Elephants, as did others. I didn't see anyone mention The Lovely Bones; I haven't seen the movie but the book is really, really good, I could hardly put it down.I hope your surgery goes well.

or CIA with strong women characters) who are fighting the bad guys of the world, I cannot say enough good things about Suzanne Brockman. Her books are each independant though you learn about most of the charcters from other books.
