I love historical mysteries, and I've just unpacked my mom's collection of them, so I'm reading a ton of those lately. With my job as a nanny to a 5 month old, I get a fair amount of time for reading during her naps, so sometimes I'm managing to get through a book every day or two!

My favorite authors have been Dorothy Sayers ("Strong Poision" is a great one to start with), Margery Alingham (I'm currently reading "Teather's End"), Peter Tremayne (He does 7th century Celtic mysteries), and Ellis Peters (the "Brother Cadfael" series).

I picked Michael Crichton's State of Fear at the airport yesterday and it is so captivating. I'm through about 500 of the 600+ pages already!

"Night of Power" by Spider Robinson. It's about a race riot / revolution in New York City, and may be one of the most insightful books I've ever read on the subject of race, despite also being a very entertaining read.

I just got done with "Timeline" by Michael Crichton. Very good book. It's about a group of Archeologists that travel 14th century France.

I'm currently reading "The Archer's Tale" by Bernard Cornwell. This is book one of his Grail Quest series.

And "The Mists of Avalon." I think it's by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

Can anyone tell what kind of books I'm into lately?

The Haunted Mansion: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies.

It made me laugh, it made me cry. An absorbing page-turner...it's the book of the decade!

Let's see...right now I'm reading a book by Carol Goodman, The Seduction of Water. She writes mysteries with kind of a literary theme--if you've read The Secret History by Donna Tart, it's like that. If you haven't read The Secret History before, I recommend you get it immediately--it's one of my favorites. Carol Goodman had a new book called Ghost Orchid that I read last week--then I went back and got one she'd written that I missed. Ghost Orchid was really one of her best books.

I also read Stephen King's newest book, The Cell, last week. It was pretty good, I enjoyed it.

Yep, it just came out--I bought it last week while I was wandering around Target waiting for dd to finish shopping for cd's. You will love it, Mal! I didn't want to come to work, I wanted to keep reading it.

I just finished "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom" by Cory Doctorow.

It was an intresting look at the MK in the future. My only complaint was the profanity. I did not care for his repeated use of "4 letter words" in this book.

I also enjoyed TimeLine.

John Grisham is my favorite author and I have read all of his books.

EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE by Jonathan Safran Foer

I really enjoyed this, my local library is having their book discussion on this tonight, I'm going to try to make it.

Basically, about a 9 yr old boy whose dad died in 9-11, and how he is dealing with it two years later. I know it sounds like it would be sad, but there is a lot of humor in it, and other plot lines that make it very interesting.

It is indeed by Marion Zimmer Bradley and it is one of my all-time favorite books! Love it!

"The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger is just can't-put-it-down amazing. It's about a guy who has a disease that makes him time travel. Fantastic. One of the best I've ever read.

Just read "A million little pieces", and I am thoroughly heartbroken that James Frey lied about so much of what was in it. I guess it wouldn't have been that big a deal ifI had known ahead of time, but the story is sooo raw and gripping, then you find out much of what made you ache for him is fabricated. I was really disappointed. It's still a good book, but it just doesn't have the same feeling for me now.

I enjoyed Timeline, too.

If you like thrillers, give Lee Child's Jack Reacher series a try.

I also enjoy some of Ken Follett's books.

For adventure and romance (with time travel kicked in!), give Diana Gabaldon a try. Outlander is the first book of hers you should read because her books go in order.

oooh, I love all of Gregory Maquire's "adult" fairy tales! I'm reading Son of a Witch right now.

Next up will be Stephen King's The Cell.
