I signed up for this insurance for the Cruise.
I am using 272 points (going alone on cruise)
The cash amt. would be $1925
When I got the Travelguard policy it has the trip value as $277
I called them today and was told "we do not insure points".
What gives--I thought this is the one that DOES insure the value of points!!
:confused3

Edited to add--I knew the points were not replaced but I thought they were worth more than $1.00 a point.

Something's not right there. As I have understood it when using points, the DVC offered insurance would reimburse you about $ 5 per point lost (under specific circumstances as defined in the contract). They have never insured points (meaning that you'd get them back)--just a part of they're value (approximately dues)

I just called MS and they said that whatever Travelguard computes as the value of the points is what it is. No other options.
For me It is about $1.00 per point. :(

...just happen to have a recent DVC Travel Guard plan in front of me...

Under Plan 1: cancellation reimbursed at $5.00 per point. Travel delay is $300 ($100 max/day). Baggage loss is $500. Baggage delay is $100.

the premium is $5.00 x points x 5.15%

Plan 2: adds airline ticket coverage

the premium is $30.00 per person.

Plan 3: adds medical coverage for 3.65 per person per day.

I hope this was helpful.

Is there a different Travelguard plan for DVC? Because this is not what I was sent.
They know it's a DVC cruise. I think their policy has changed. I will call them again and ask.

I called Travelguard --they had not computed it correctly--it IS $5.00 per point. I had to pay the increased premium and they will send an amended policy. Whew!

I'm glad it worked out! Too bad DVC doesn't offer a plan that protected points... I'd pay a little more to have it as the points are what matter to me.

I would rather pay more and have them protected for $7.50 or $10 a point... in other words so that I could actually replace the vacation if something happens. That's not possible on $5 a point. I wish DVC would change this policy.

What I wonder is what happens when a room is cancelled? I have a 1 bedroom reservation for June, 5 nights BWV boardwalk view. If I bought the insurance and cancelled, I would get $750. I assume DVC then rents the room for cash. The rack rate for that room would be over $2,000 for 5 nights. So do they then reimburse the profit back to the insurance company (subtracting for expenses)?

On the point chart for Member Cruise my points (272) had a $ amt. of $1925--which comes to $7.08 per point. Is that what Disney thinks each point is valued at? My stateroom is Cat 8. The point value may change with each category.
I would also be willing to cover the entire point value with trip insurance.
My premium for 272 pts. will be $70.04 [not including medical].

This was asked at the BWV board meeting - why can't the insurance cover more? - They said they would look into this, but if you are unhappy you should write to Mr. Lewis. Maybe if DVC gets more complaints they will do something

We're doing an II trade to Cancun in November ... and while I'm optimistic that everything will be fine, it is still hurricane season, so the issue of the DVC Travelguard plan is important to me. I'd much rather pay a higher premium and know if something happened I'd get enough money to book a week in Cancun another time.
